No SIM card installed keeps popping up

I have been using my wifi/cellular iPad mini without a SIM card for the last eight months without a problem. I 'upgraged' to os8 a couple of days ago and now I get a pop up telling me there's no SIM card installed every few minutes. It popped up twice whilst trying to type this message. I have looked everywhere in settings for a way to disable it, thinking that perhaps certain apps were prompting it. Will I have to put a sim card to avoid this? I was told when I bought it, that without a SIM card it would be just like a wifi only ipad. or will I have to reset it to factory settings and load everything again? Thanks in advance.

Some general observations:

Whilst it isn't the purist's answer, I have inserted a SIM card and this has solved the problem completely. Completely, in the sense that I no longer get the very annoying NO SIM CARD INSERTED notification on my Ipad3. However, this was not an issue prior to the IOS 8 upgrade. Apple should be able to solve this problem without having to insert a Sim card as the solution.

Furthermore, I will NOT be upgrading my iPhone 4s to iOS 8...because the upgrade to 7.1.2 has resulted in decreased efficiency and I won't diminish performance further through an upgrade to 8. I am comforted by the fact that this opinion is shared by many fellow bloggers in other forums!

Until a fix comes from Apple, in the words of Molly Meldrum "do yourself a favour and insert a Sim card.

Good Luck

Hello,

I have the same issue with my iPad, 4th Gen w/latest iO8 installed. I have an actual SIM card because when I initially bought my iPad, I got the one with cellular service and even with an actual SIM card, I still get the "No SIM card installed" popup. I've had to reset my network, only for it to work for a little while and then the popup happens again.

I have tried a few of the suggestions y'all have suggested, one of them has worked for me for at least the last 24 hrS. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which one it was! I think Facebook may be the key, I went to FB settings- Apps- Logged in through Facebook- then I individually changed every app to (Sharing only with me) and made sure they didn't have access to share my info -(songs I listen to, photos, etc). I did the airplane mode @ 10 times off and on, I had Siri turn off Cellular Data, and I made sure that no Apps were sset to use Cellular data. If I think of anything else I will let yall know!

Oh, I also did the reset network settings too.

OK, so hopefully this will be my last post in this matter ...

Yesterday I had a chance to visit one of those phone shops in next bigger city. I told them about my problem and the fine folks provided me with a shiny new Nano SIM card, free of charge! They said it's one of their spares and it would actually work if I activated it with the provider.

I put it in and ... the first thing that came up after a reset was: NO SIM CARD

What ???

Cellular was still "off" and it also said "No SIM".

I asked Siri to turn Cellular on. She said she did, but now it's still off, just greyed out and still saying No SIM.

BUT: I have gotten the dreadful Popup only twice more yesterday and not yet today. Wich is way wayyyy less than it used to be.

So even if this might not be the perfect solution after all, it's good enough for now.

I did all I could do, really.

Now it's really up to youknowwho to wise up and do something about it.

Same model iPad and software, and I get "OK, I found this on the Web for 'Disable Cellular Network'", followed by a list of search results. For "cellular network", Siri says "OK, here's what I got", followed by a list of search results.

Perhaps because there is no "cellular network" setting on my iPad. "Cellular data", "Network", and "Carrier" are all off, and I still get the error message.

Hi all,

same problem for me with my iPAD 3. iOS 8.2.1 worked fine for weeks and then i tried to install my SIM card. I got a message that there are Carrier updates and if i would like to update my iPAD, so i pressed yes (nothing new so far). My iPAD rebooted and then it went to "Activation Required". Since then, and even that i have restored it as new device 2 times already i cannot use my SIM as it infinitely checks for the PIN validity and when i leave it locked, i get the "Locked SIM" message every minute and when i remove it i get the "no SIM card installed" message every minute...

So to wrap up:

I already tried a fine working SIM and it does not proceed after PIN check (iPAD is carrier free ie purchased unlocked)

I already tried keeping the SIM locked and it does not work since i get the "Locked SIM" message every minute

I already tried removing the SIM and it does not work since I get the "No SIM card installed" message

I already tried restoring my iPAD as new device two times and it didn't work

I already tried Airplane mode, no luck

I already tried turning Cellular data off, no luck either

I didn't tried the SIRI option but i doubt it would make any difference

IMHO this is a serious bug that came with iOS 8 and Apple needs to address it immediately so please APPLE do something to help us all, who trust your products!!!

Update #1: i restored my iPad for the third time as new device only this time i did it via iTunes on my iMac. So far without the SIM card installed i don't get the message anymore. I only got it once after the initial boot which is normal. I will give it another go inserting and removing the SIM to see how this will work and give an update with the result.
