Sorry guys but you're all wrong. The double tap feature on the home button is meant for replying to text messages when you are in an app and you get a message you can double tap the home button and slide the message down further so you can read the entire message instead of just part of it and also reply to it either by typing or with the voice to text microphone icon. It is an extremely helpful feature especially when you're playing a game and you are on level 10 about to beat the game and get a text message that you have to reply to immediately so now you can without closing out the game and losing your unsaved progress.

Sorry kylefromgilbert, but you're the one that's wrong here. It's not only meant for replying to text messages. Yes, it is helpful for situation you described but it is used for many things.Try it on any screen or in any app and you will see that the screen will slide down. The feature is called "Reachability" and is specifically designed to do more things one handed.

Yes of course first go to settings and then select notifications and from there change your message notifications to banner and then when you double tap not to be confused with double clicking it will let you drag the message down and read the whole thing as well as respond. It is called reachability mode, and in response to the last reply regarding this you are right. It is also used for that as well but I don't find it very helpful on the iPhone 6 but does come in quite handy on the 6 plus bc it's so big.
