i think, as i grope for understanding, that by default calendar, the iOS is referring to subcalendars, so, it wouldn't be iCloud or iCal, but the specific calendars those programs provide, in the case of iPhone Calendar or iCal, it would be Pets or Health or a calendar you create yourself etc.

In my system, if i use my Gmail calendar as default, i have the GMT problem. If i use an iCloud calendar as default calendar, i don't have the GMT problem. Are you saying you have this problem when you select one of the iCloud calendars on the Default Calendar page in Calendars (Settings), as well as having it if you select Google calendar? Google calendar is not an option in my system, only one of my Gmail accounts and alternatively, the iCloud calendars.

JJust to reiterate,may possible work around, not a solution, is to take the following steps when entering a new calendar entry on your iOS device affected by the bug:

1. Create the appointment as usual on your iOS device. After you click Add, the GMT time will appear In a second or so.

2. Next edit the newly added appointment;

3. Change the appt to an All Day appt;

4. Next immediately change the appt back to a non-all day appt;

5. You will now notice that the time listed for the appt will now be the GMT time;

6. But now but you can now change the appt back to the proper time. When you go to change the time you will notice that the time zone is now set as your proper time zone and not the GMT time zone that prevented editing the appointment previously.

7. After you save the newly edited appt, the GMT entry will go away.

As I said, a pain for each new appt but its worked for me. The key was turning on, then turning off the All Day switch in the appt after creating it and then editing it.

i Can't use iCloud Calendar as it creates a whole separate calendar in my Outlook Calendar and that doesn't work for me.

So, what I thought had worked did not. It had simply switched my default calendar to the iCloud calendar and I wasn't paying attention. The problem exists if you want to use your Google Calendar as your default calendar.

At this point there are two workarounds that I see:

1. Enter all calendar appts on your Google Calendar and not from your phone. I've tried this repeatedly and it works. The GMT issue does not appear.

2. Enter appt and then go back in an edit it choosing the correct time. Once you delete the "GMT" (which doesn't even really exist as a choice otherwise), it goes away.

It's DEFINITELY an Apple issue. If you notice, the time is listed as "GMT" which there is no "GMT" if you search for it or delete it. You can normally only choose a city which corresponds to your time zone. You can't search for EST, CST or anything else for that matter. So, somehow...this "bug" exists in the interface between the updated Apple iOS and Google Calendar. The problem appeared immediately after the iOS update so that's why I say it's an Apple issue. And, from all I've read from people who have contacted support, they simply say "It's a known issue. No fix available." So, yay.

Anyway, none of the overrides, reboots, or anything else I have tried works. It shows up as the correct time...it just lists the GMT time as well. At this point, it would appear we have no choice but to work around it or live with it.

Everyone, yesterday morning I upgraded my iMac to Yosemite and the GMT / CST issue is gone.

I am very curious to find out what dynamic could cause this to have resolved via this method in your particular case. Unfortunately, I can confirm that this is not a solution.

I have been running Yosemite on my MB Pro since October, and it had no effect on this issue whatsoever (doesn't cause it, and doesn't resolve it)

The issue is due to the interaction of bad code in iOS and the system time setting on your account server. Therefore I would be really surprised if changing anything on a client (like your iMac) would have any effect. I certainly believe what you are reporting, but I don't think this was caused by an upgrade to Yosemite. have you tested setting up appointments on both Yosemite AND on your iOS device(s)? In my case, appointments set up on Yosemite or by my windows machines always looked fine on the iOS devices....only appointments created or modified on an iOS device will have the GMT thing on them.

Do you have any way to find out if any other variables in your system changed? I suspect what happened is that most likely your account was migrated to a different server that is set to your current local time zone. Do you have some way to find out?

I never had this issue with events created on my iPhone, or on my Exchange calendar. I only had it happen when I added a new event on my iMac calendar, which would 90% of the time show up on my iPhone with the correct time but with GMT or CST in parenthesis. I have tried this repeatedly this morning and now it does not happen. I did not change anything else except went from Lion to Yosemite. I wanted Airplay which is why I did it. Lo and behold, as you said, my calendar must now be linked to a server within my time zone.

I agree with JG. I fixed the GMT issue on my Mac by removing the gmail account then re-adding it. This had no effect at all on iOS. I still have to enter events on my calendar from my phone and the GMT issue is not resolved via my laptop.

@OkPanky: As strange and coincidental as it may seem, I really do think that maybe your account got migrated to a different server around the same time as, or at exactly the same time as you did your upgrade. Maybe there is something in your service provider's load balancing algorithm that caused your account to get migrated when the server saw this "new" client (i.e. your newly upgraded OS iMac) connecting for the first time? Pure speculation but that could explain it. And in my experience, the simplest explanation is almost always the correct explanation 🙂.

Sounds quite possible to me. I'm just glad it's gone. Will repost if the issue returns.

I can also attest that this doesn't resolve the issue. I have been running Yosemite for several months now, and the problem arose after the upgrade to 10.10.

However, I hope that this continues to work for you.

I am not using iCloud for my calendar. Any comments from those users not syncing their calendar to iCloud?

So, this bug with iOS8 was first reported here in this thread on September 21, 2014 and so far there is still no solution from Apple? Perhaps this was introduced and/or is not being fixed because Apple doesn't like Google. 🙂

I too am having the problem ever since upgrading to iOS 8. I use CalDAV and CardDAV to sync with Google Calendar and Contacts. Since upgrading to iOS8, all new events created on my iPhone are in GMT time. If I go back and edit the event, I can change the time zone to Pacific Time (where I live) but then this keeps the time (numbers) the same (from GMT time) so I then also have to change the time back to the correct event time. If I create an event directly on Google Calendar via the web, then the event is in the correct time zone.

Definitely an iOS bug. Instead of trying to excuse it or explain that it is a "feature", Apple should be saying "excuse me" and fixing it.

I do not sync to iCloud. My problem exists solely with my iPhone 6 and entering appts using Google as my default calendar.

If I use iCloud as my default calendar, no problem.

If I add the appt from Google, no problem.

BUT, if I add the appt from my iPhone using Google as my default calendar, the appt shows up with the GMT time. I then have to go back in and adjust the time to my time zone. Basically, I have to enter the appt twice. Super annoying but the only workaround other than entering appt from Google.
