Are all the people reporting this problem not using an iCloud default calendar? I am trying to understand the problems i have had with Calendar on my iPhone and with iCloud in the context of the posts on this thread but so far, i am just confused. i want to submit a bug report to Apple but am not sure how to describe it. I'm not sure if i have a different problem from others on this thread, or the same problem.
I have fixed the problem by changing my default calendar from my gmail.com user name to an iCloud calendar, which i created, called All Cloud. I could've used any iCloud calendar for default calendar (i experimented). As long as i use an iCloud calendar, the GMT problem i suddenly started having in mid December on the new iPhone 6 i got on 11/25 disappeared. I totally don't have that problem any more, it's gone.
Is the reason others can't use this solution because for whatever reason, they have to use a non-iCloud calendar as their default calendar, Google Calendar, Exchange, or whatever, anything other than an iCloud calendar? As far as i can tell, the only price i had to pay to get rid of the GMT problem was to stop using my gmail email address user name as my default calendar. Apparently, that has not caused any undesired consequences. i can just as easily use an iCloud calendar as my default calendar, it's really no different from using the gmail related calendar. Unlike others on this threat, i'm guessing, i don't use Google Calendar or Exchange calendar or any non-iClound calendar. i have always just used my iPhone calendar and iCal. I am guessing other people on this thread have a necessity to use one of the non-iCloud calendars as their default calendar. Personally, i was annoyed at having to change my default calendar when this happened with GMT (and two other serious calendar related problems that also were caused by that, i'm puzzled that no one else had those other two problems), and i preferred to keep my gmail user name calendar just because i didn't like to have to change it because of a bug.
So if i want to submit a bug report, what am i actually saying? I would say that a bug in the iOS caused my Calendar to start giving me GMT info that resulted in a confusing and unnecessarily cluttered Calendar interface, that it also caused me to have 30 minute event alerts on every event i entered when i don't want those alerts and have checked 'none' in Settings, and have checked 'none' in the event set up--clearly there is a bug if despite those settings, i still get the 30 minute alert on every event i create, and third, the events i enter in my Calendar on my iPhone do not sync with iCloud and iCal---so i have no back up. None of this happened before in the years i've used iOS, only since i got the new iPhone.. None of this should be happening. If i change my default calendar to one of the iCloud calendars, all these problems immediately and permanently go away, but i want to be able to use my gmail Apple ID as my default calendar and want Apple to know that just because i use a gmail address as my default calendar, should not cause all those problems. There has to be a serious bug in the iOS if entering events results in unwanted GMT info, 30 minute alerts despite Calendar settings and event settings saying 'none' for alerts, and the failure of any events entered on my iPhone to sync with iCal and iCloud.
When i called Apple about these problems several weeks ago, before i figured out that i could solve them by using an iCloud calendar as my default calendar, the rep (first tier and inexperienced, frequently put me on hold to consult with supervisors) said that i should do a factory reset on my iPhone. i was like, no, i don't think so, i don't want to go to all that hassle for something i know is a problem with the iOS.
I would like to find out why using an iCloud as a default calendar doesn't solve this problem for others. Is it because of a necessity (that i don't have) of using a non-iCloud calendar as default?
