10.9.5 wifi

Hello all,

I just updated my 2010 macbook pro to the 10.9.5 of OSX Mavericks.

Howerver, after reboot, it seems that both my wifi and my bluetooth devices are "gone".

The computer seems not to even see the hardware as the wifi icon on the top bar shows no hardware found.

Also, no way to find any of the two in the network panel....

anybody has something like that?

thanks

In many cases, this issue is caused by a hardware fault. A loose connection, a short circuit, or a microscopic break in a solder joint may open and close depending on temperature, making the failure intermittent.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Back up all data before making any changes.

1. If you can connect to the Internet via Ethernet, Bluetooth, or a USB network device, make sure all available OS X updates are installed. If Wi-Fi is your only means of network access, skip this step.

2. Reset the NVRAM.

3. Reset the System Management Controller.

4. Start up in Recovery mode. In the menu bar of the OS X Utilities screen, there's a Wi-Fi menu. Try to connect. If it works, select Install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

5. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

Hmm....

One last thing you may want to try is to run the Apple Hardware Test--you can do this by shutting down, then restarting by holding down the D key. It may take a bit, but running the diagnostics may point to some hardware issues.

I was experiencing the same issues that you were, and contacted Apple support--and the technician then had me run through this test. It did indicate a fault (code given), so there is probably a hardware failure of some type.

I have an appointment today--and will post the results. I have a feeling the WiFi/Bluetooth hardware is on the way out.

Try going to System Preferences>Network and see if you've a Wi-Fi router connection. If you do, delete it and then add it back. See if that helps the wi-fi.

I've no clue as to what could be affecting your lack of Bluetooth - do you see it as a Preference pane?

You'll need to take the machine into an Apple Store or an AASP and see what they would charge to repair the machine. It could be something as simple as a loose cable, or the AirPort/Bluetooth module(s) may be damaged. I don't think that it was the update that caused the problem: I think that it was just coincidental that the hardware was damaged after the update.

Be certain to make backups of your drive before handing it over to an Apple tech - sometimes their first response is to wipe the drive and reinstall OS X.

Good luck,

Same here. Recognizing bluetooth failure after the update 4 to 8 times a day.

Magic Mouse goes OFF without reason. Turning it on/off doesn't get it back. Controlpanel "Bluetooth" in System Preferences freezes (shows an endless spinning wheel).

The only way to get Mouse back is to Restart which is really, really annoying and not acceptable while at work.

PRAM-, NVRAM- or SMC-Resets don't solve the problem.

Any help appreciated

I have almost the same problem with my early 2011 13" MBP.

Since the reboot after the update to 10.9.5 the internal WIFI is unavailable due to the "No hardware installed" message. The difference to the original problem report is that in my case Bluetooth functionality is unimpaired and the problem is solely limited to the WIFI adapter.

I already tried various common troubleshooting steps, such as resetting the NVRAM as well as the SMC. I also (briefly) tried downgrading the 80211 I/O-Kit driver bundle to its 10.9.4 state to no avail. Judging from the contents of the I/O-Registry, the lack of driver matching by I/O-Kit and high verbosity debug logging of the BRCM 4331 driver (when manually loaded), I suspect the problem to be rooted within the bus enumeration rather than the driver itself.

Unfortunately my most recent TM backup is slightly too old to make a 10.9.4 downgrade feasible. Has anyone tried to upgrade to the most recent 10.10 GM candidate?

Same issues here with iMac and PowerBook. Problem is worse when using Citrix / Virtual Desktop. Thought it may be an issue with Citrix, but mouse, trackpad, and wireless keyboards are losing connection on home desktop as well. Quite painful, especially when issue has no consistent fix. Have broken out the wired keyboard and even it isn't recognized (AT TIMES) when using Citrix receiver and 10.9.5.

Mac Support / Board? Any suggestions? Timeline for 10.9.6 to fix this issue with 10.9.5?

This discussion is pretty old by now but I had the same problem for no reason one day and it took me all day to figure it out! I had a USB 3.0 Hub plugged into one of my ports an an external hard drive plugged into that. I lost wifi connectivity completely. I tried everything before I tried unplugging everything from my Macbook. Who would have thought that such an unrelated problem could be caused by an external device being plugged into a usb port. Did not expect this from apple. If you have this problem just try unplugging all peripherals in the process of troubleshooting.
