iPhone 6 with Health App / Cycling tracking broken?

Hi guys -

Wondering if you guys have tried cycling with an iPhone 6?

I was hoping that the M8 chip would be able to track my cycles? - While it works with steps-taken and distance covered, it doesn't seem to recognise I've been riding my bike.

Here's how it looks on my ip6 after my cycle today...

Is it broken? Is my phone broken?

Let me know if you guys have had this issue also.

Cheers!

Well I specifically asked about my iPhone 6s. Do you personally know of anyone that has an iPhone 6 (or later) that is able to recognize when you are biking without third party app?

No, just going by my understanding of how it's supposed to work. For a variety of other reasons, I use a third party app and I don't bother looking at Health for that. I primarily use Health as a conduit for syncing from on thing to another anyway.

Hey guys, I have a question related to this thread that I could not find an answer to anywhere on the Web. I assume I'm just an idiot for that because it's a really basic thing.

So the iOS Health app doesn't track cycling - ok, I can live with that. But: is there a third-party app to do that that would not require you to press 'start' and whenever you're about to get on the bike and 'stop' when you are done? I tries Cyclometer and Strava but neither seems to be able to track cycling automatically, without you pressing buttons all the time. It kind of kills the whole point to me. I know that Human tries to do that, but it's miserably inaccurate. I do around 10 miles of cycling daily, and I tend to go pretty fast, but it likes to think that I'm walking 90% of that time. I'm not asking for 100% accuracy, just something more solid. I feel like there must be a simple answer to that 🙂 Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

The app "Moves" tracks cycling automatically. Two disadvantages: - it does not store the data in HealthKit. This is a bummer for me. - it uses a lot of battery. This makes sense to me because for cycling tracking you probably need a lot of gps data. Does someone know an app like Moves but with HealthKit support?

This is totally annoying from my point of view.

Of course you can use a third party app while cycling, but the real question here is why Apple counts steps while cycling.

It happens both with the iPhone 6s and the Apple Watch. It is something that should not happen.
