Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

Updated my iPad Air to iOS 8. Apps requiring updates and any new app downloads I tried on my iPad Air have been sitting in wait status for hours. I did the following to try to correct the problem but with no success...

- Turned off and restarted the ipad

- reset the iPad without losing previous data

- signed out of iTunes account and signed back in.

My cellular and wifi router are working fine. My iPhone 5 update and iPad mini updates to ios8 worked fine and new apps and any updates are downloading without any problems. I have auto download turned in for apps so when I initiate an app download on my iPad Air, it downloads fine onto my iPad mini even though it is "hung up" on my iPad Air.

Is there anything else I should try before taking the radical step of wiping clean my iPad Air?

SOLVED!

Yes, I could switch to another network without any trouble downloading, but really where is the other convenient network.

I turned off the Ipad and turned back on, without signing out of app store. Then when I went back to the app store a few apps where already updating, BUT Don't Touch the 'Update All' button, or you get nothing! Then I patiently waited for the few to finish updating. Then tapped on the next one and it updated 2 more apps, then Wait for it... tapped again then 2 more and repeat. All apps are updated. Need to be patient with it and it's better then wiping the whole thing or resetting all of my stuff. I did notice when deleting then downloading the app again did work, but that's a lot of apps, I only did this to a few important ones.

I had this problem on my iPad Air on 8.0.2...just as 8.1 was being released. I could not update apps and I could not update to 8.1. I was able to update to 8.1 via iTunes, but my apps were still not updating. I tried a number of things, but after reading this thread, I changed my setting to stop automatically downloading app updates, then I rebooted my iPad and then I double-clicked the home button and deleted everything that was running...and it was a massive number of apps.

Before doing this, I had 72 apps waiting for updates. Once I did this, apps started updating. I'm down to my last four and they are still working. Some apps seem to progress all the way to a "full circle" and they start downloading again. Two tries appears to be the most I've seen. Most make it on the first try.

Ah...all done now. Zero left to update.

thanks for the tip!

Hey guys,

I tried various methods but the one that ended up working for me is the hard reset. This does not mean turning the iPad off in a usual manner. Please try this:

Hold then home (circle) button and the power button simultaneously for about 10 second. Keep holding those buttons until the white apple logo appears. When it appears, you can let go of both of the buttons.

Then unlock the iPad and then go to the App Store. Tap on update and see if it works out. I did for me.

P.s. Why is this discussion board's font so small? I can barely see the text on my iPad! Sooooo annoying!

Hey guys i was having a huge problem with the app store too where i wouldn't see apps that needed updating in the app store and it wouldnt let me download, just the blue spinning circle until it crashed. Really ****** me off because i am paying premium for a device that has so many glitches.

Anyways, it started like 4 weeks ago, the appstore wouldn't let me download apps on my iphone 6 ios 8.0.2. Resetted Network Settings and that seemed to do the trick until a few days later when it happened again. Reset it and it worked for like another day then i got mad and just restored the whole phone back to normal, where i was able to download again for some time.

About a week ago I ended up replacing my iphone 6 with a new one because my screen had cracked, so i had a brand new iphone 6 to which i started a fresh restore on ios 8.1 from scratch to avoid any problems. THEN YESTERDAY, i had the same effing problem, wouldn't let me download just the blue spinning circle. I tried everything on this forum and nothing worked. I was soo mad i was going to go to the apple store and raise all **** but then i think i solved my problem.

I couldn't just download apps on the appstore, any apple app wasn't letting me download like podcast or ibooks (Same blue circle spinning then crashing). I deleted all my podcast and Volia it worked. I think it was having some kind of download queue problem where it got stuck from the podcast app and wouldn't let me download anything else.

I AM SO MAD AT APPLE for not thoroughly testing their device or acknowledging this problem. I think i am done with apple products after being a loyal costumer for many years. SCREW YOU APPLE FOR A CRAPPY DEVICE!

Well this is extremely frustrating. I'm back in this state again and can't seem to fix it.

When I tap on "purchase" it turns to a spinning circle indefinitely. Tapping again the circle disappears.

Same when I tap on one to download (a previous purchase.)

I've:
Disabled everything under settings>iTunes & App Store (including automatic updates.)

Disabled touch ID for iTunes purchases

Disabled background apps

Logged out of of my account in the App store, iTunes, and iBooks.

I even used iExplorer to delete the "downloads" folder under Media Files using iExplorer. Even tried deleting other content.

Of course rebooted and powered off/on about 5 thousand times in between.

Previously some of these combinations worked but I'm just stuck. I guess when I get home I'll use iExplorer to nuke the Media folder and re-sync everything to see if it works. I'm just getting so ****** about this bug.

Well nothing I've done has worked. I did a "Reset all settings" and sure enough it's working again. Reset all settings has worked before but it's a pain because it resets all of my privacy/location permissions, fingerprint scans, and a few other settings. Note, it was't "rest all data settings," it was just "reset all settings."

I figured out how to fix this issue on my iPhone 6 running 8.1. Tried everything in this forum....

Then I took a shot....

Logged out of ITunes/App Store then turned off Passcode, Touch ID & ApplePay...did a hard reset. When the phoned powered back up, the App Store had the red bubble of updates needed. Viola! It worked!

I suspect the bug happens when setting up ApplePay and linking it to the payment method setup in iTunes. I'm going to setup ApplePay backup but not use the same card on file with iTunes. Stay tuned....

Yup, sure enough that did it. I avoided turning off passcode because it would de-register my Apple Pay card. The last time I did that then tried to re-add the card, I had to call the bank and go through 20 questions (not literally) to verify my identity.

I did just what you did, turned off pass code and touch-id and what do you know? It fixed the problem.

Argh. Thanks for the fix.

When I did "Erase all settings" it blows away Apple Pay, Touch ID, and passcode it looks like that's what fixes it.
