Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

Updated my iPad Air to iOS 8. Apps requiring updates and any new app downloads I tried on my iPad Air have been sitting in wait status for hours. I did the following to try to correct the problem but with no success...

- Turned off and restarted the ipad

- reset the iPad without losing previous data

- signed out of iTunes account and signed back in.

My cellular and wifi router are working fine. My iPhone 5 update and iPad mini updates to ios8 worked fine and new apps and any updates are downloading without any problems. I have auto download turned in for apps so when I initiate an app download on my iPad Air, it downloads fine onto my iPad mini even though it is "hung up" on my iPad Air.

Is there anything else I should try before taking the radical step of wiping clean my iPad Air?

HI glennieboy and others,

I had been having this problem with my iPad and iPhone.

I read in a blog thar it was something to do with a clash between the wifi connection/ router. Maybe that's why Apple Care haven't been able to help me.

So last night my husband came home and I connected both the iPad and my phone to his mobile's 4G and in seconds all apps uploaded

i I just want to reinforce that my wifi network is working perfectly well but whatever the settings of the new iOS, some sort of clash is happening.

EVen whenyou try to use iTunes on your Mac.

I Hope this helps more people, I will call apple care and let them know it worked for me.

best of luck

I also had the same problem, the new update of "Youtube" has been released and I also experienced the same problem with glennieboy. What I did is I went to settings>general>reset>Reset Network Setting. After I entered my passcode, my iPad rebooted and after it successfully rebooted, I went back to appstore and followed cali71aw's said and it successfully updated. Hope it helped.

I still didn't know how/when this kind of happening should fix but try what I do to get rid of unable to update some apps or tired of waiting not installing apps..
1. Go to itunes.
2. Connect your iphone to your laptop/computer.
3. In itunes, select APP STORE. Then install some apps what you want there in app store or apps should update then go update there while you're still in itunes. And wait the installation/update to finish. (Patience is virtue)
4. After you install some apps there, Go click into your iphone/ipad. From the summary, Click APPS. then Go drag whatever apps you like into your iphone/ipad.
5. And wait to copy the apps into your iphone/ipad. You can already see the icon into your iphone/ipad.
6. Then viola! Wait to finish sync.
Your apps in your iphone/ipad are now updated and you can install now any apps just by using itunes.
It's very multitasking I guess but its worth it.

PS: I'M USING IPHONE 4

Hi.

Managed to get around this on my iPad (I think the problem is an Apple ID authentication issue):

- Go to iPad Settings \ ITunes & App Store \ then sign out (tap your Apple ID and select Signout)

- If you have an iPhone with the same Apple ID then sign out of that as well

- Sign out of iTunes on your Mac or PC

- Reset your iPad (hold Home button and on/off switch till it shuts down)

- Switch the iPad back on.

- You'll be asked to sign back in with your Apple ID - for initial authentication and again when you go to the App Store.

After this Apps have downloaded and updated normally for me.

Hope this helps

I had the same problem. The solution for me was:

CHANGE THE LANGUAGE OF YOUR IPAD TO WHAT YOU ORIGINALLY HAD.

My language was first English, then I changed it and nothin updated anymore and I couldn't download any apps. Also it said when I tried to update an app: cannot purschase this app. I changed my language back to English and everything updates again!

I tried all the solutions mentioned in this thread and none worked. Apple released IOS 9.3 yesterday and I installed it. This led to an authentication issue that is also noted the Apple discussions, but a restore from a backup resolved the authentication issue. I am now able to update the apps individually from the Updates tab and download apps from the Purchased tab that were previously installed and removed when troubleshooting this issue.
