Old device shown in iCloud account

I had an iPhone 4s which I have given to my wife, but before I handed it over I switched off find my iPhone and reset the device, but the phone is still showing up under my devices in my iCloud account along with my new phone.

How do I delete it from my account?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), iPhone 6 - 128gb

Thank you for that. I usually am pretty smart about this stuff, but when I went looking for how to change trusted devices the link completely eluded me and I concluded there wasn't one -- perhaps conditioned by the fact that we can't clean up old devices on iCloud.com! Thanks again.

I spoke to apple via chat. God bless the chap that tried to help but he couldnt. He tried all the things others here have said.

I even went as far as erasing it via 'find my iphone' and then setting the ipad up with another family members apple ID. Still there. Doesnt delete no matter what I try.

Planning to sell the ipad soon but dont want to until this is solved.

PS

when i signed my ipad up on the other apple ID after erasing it, it did not show up on the other apple ID. So maybe its broken both ways?

I encountered the same issue it seems that the reason that this happens is that you need to sign the device out of iCloud before you delete the content and settings (unfortunately Apple do not tell you this in their instructions on what to do before selling your phone).

Fortunately I discovered this before I sent my iPhone 5 off for sale. To delete it I had to restore the iPhone using my iTunes / iCloud backup. After you have completed that:-

Go to settings > iCloud

Scroll to the bottom and click on Sign Out

It brings up a warning about deleting documents click sign out again

You are then asked to enter your password - do this and click "Turn off"

You will now find it has been deleted from iCloud.

Of course you then need to go through the process of deleting all documents and settings from your phone again.

I appreciate this does not help if you no longer have access to the phone I could not find a way to delete it remotely either.

I also have the same issue. Gave my iPhone 5s to my wife and switched to the 6. It is just annoying is all that it still shows up in iCloud.

Through all of my efforts, I did find a couple things I needed to update a long the way:

  • supportprofile.apple.com
  • In your new device, go to settings, privacy, location, services, share my location, from, and then there should be a big list of devices. Side swipe to the left and it should give an option to delete.

Neither of these remove it from showing in your iCloud settings, but it is good to do some generally housekeeping.

Answer from another discussion :

"I spoke with 2 Apple representatives for one hour trying to figure this out. The supervisor said that this happens to be a glitch in the system. However he also said that the iCloud website should reset every 90 days and when it does any "ghost" devices should be removed automatically, if not currently signed in to iCloud. Hope this helps."
