Old device shown in iCloud account

I'm having this issue as well. I gave my old iPhone5 to my brother who has activated and signed into his icloud and now on my new phone it keeps telling me that I don't have enough storage to back up my new phone because my old phone is still showing up and taking up half the storage and I don't want to buy more storage space since I have plenty if only the old phone could be deleted. Has anyone had success with it dropping off after 90 days or figured out how to delete the old phone??

Your back up storage space available and the topic being discussed are two separate things.

In regards to deleting a previous iCloud back up, there is an easy fix. Go to 'settings - iCloud - Storage - Manage Storage - Click on your older 5s - Delete backup on the bottom of the page.

Make certain your phone has been fully restored and you have all information on there because once it is deleted, that restore point is not coming back.

As soon as the old back up is deleted, proceed with completing a back up on your new device.

In regards to the device showing up on iCloud even after use, there has not been a solution. Apple is aware of this and there currently is no fix. Even though it doesn't harm anything - it is just annoying.

I managed to get rid of the Old Device from my icloud by deleting the back up of the old device in my icloud back up.

Iphone > Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > delete the old device from here.

Once this is done the old devices will be deleted in your icloud settings.

OK, so I had this problem for a while, too and then one day, my old iPhone 5 just dropped off that list of devices in Settings on iCloud.com.

I just thought the problem sorted itself out. But, I happened to be surfing YouTube and came across a CNet video that led me to supportprofile.apple.com. And there was my old (and long since re-sold to Verizon) iPhone 5 on my list of devices.

I clicked on it and then on the next screen I clicked "Remove Product" and that was it.

So, hopefully this will help at least one person on this thread.

Try This:

1. go here https://appleid.apple.com

2. click Manage Your Apple ID

3. click Passwords & Security

4. on the right side, under Manage your Trusted Devices, click Add or Remove Trusted Devices

5. you should see your devices, including your old ones and be able to remove it

I'll throw my name in the hat too.

I have a "phantom" iPhone 6+ listed in iCloud settings after swapping the phone at the Genius Bar.

Things I've done that have not resolved the issue:

1. Turned off Find My iPhone before swapping phone

2. Removed device from my support profile

3. Removed old backup associated with device

4. Removed device from Location Sharing

5. Called Apple Care

Things I've tried to do but have been unable to:

1. Reset devices associated with iTunes Match (apparently I reset it about 6 months ago and it can only be done once per year)

I guess I'll just have to wait it out and see if it eventually drops off the site like a few others have indicated.

Adding myself to the 'me too' list.

I have a question about this though ....

Even if you forgot to sign out of icloud before you erased the device, can your photos, contacts, calendar, etc be accessed through the old device at a later date? They need your password, correct? So, if it was deleted, all those settings are gone, and can't be regained until logged back in from the device, right??

I would hope that's the case.

I do not see "Manage your Trusted Devices" in Apple ID > PW & Security.....am I missing something ?

I see this in iTunes and have repeated the "remove" there but old iPhone keeps showing back up.

UPDATE:

I do go into iTunes under account and in "Manage Devices" REMOVE the old 4S device but it keep showing back up each day.

This is strange because I did a full reset everything on the phone and traded it in on new phone.

This old 4S phone is no longer in my icloud.com or my Apple support profile.

However, my old 5S phones (traded them in too) are in icloud.com but do NOT show in iTunes.

This is just crazy from Apple you cannot delete these old phones without having logged them out in the phone itself.

So much for them being "cloud" based.

This has also been going on forever.....they need to fix this !!!!!!

If you still have the old device, set it up as a new device, sign into your iCloud account, then sign out and it will be removed from the signed in device list on iCloud.com.

Solved ! Before erasing your device, you have to sign out from both iCloud and iTunes/AppStore ! Now I can sell my old 4S 😀

Go to settings click on iCloud then go to storage click on manage storage and delete the old iCloud backup from the old device,
