I Was originally going to stay away from this discussion because I've proven a few times now that resetting the router completely to default and updating to the latest router firmware fixes the issue. The problem was with a Broadcom driver change, please keep in mind that wireless N originally was still in beta and not finalized when it was rolled out by manufacturers.
but for your daughter traveling one thing does come to mind. Over seas and in other countries they have access to 4 or more channels that we don't use in the U.S. That the FCC has banned for wifi use. The U.S. Routers usually ship using channel 6, but some over seas use channel 14 that is not allowed in the U.S.
since she is traveling it is possible that the routers are using a channel not allowed in the U.S. In this case she can either call apple or try changing her region on the phone from US to UK or maybe the country she is visiting. But I think the UK uses all the channels even the ones we are not allowed to.
in settings, general, language & region, change it from US to UK or the country she is currently in.
If she is in Europe then UK will cover and allow most.
She can leave the language on English, but I think by changing this region then restarting the phone this will allow her wifi to access these additional channels. Their is a small chance I may be wrong and that's why I suggested calling apple. But I'm 99% sure this is now to change it and get those wifi channels.
Or dropping by the local Apple Store if there is one.
I hope this helped. Good luck.
