I have a work iPhone 4s which i updated to iOS 8 at work and this work iPhone 4s connects fine to my home wifi network. i am using an iMac at home as our wifi router. The iMac is connected my cable modem through ethernet cable. Have tried powering off the devices, reset network on iPhone and iPad, still keeps saying "password incorrect". HELP!!

This is interesting - I've been fighting what I thought was a bad router. Have an Apple AirPort Extreme and recently (like in the last 2 weeks) devices simply drop off the wifi. If I try get my iOS devices back in, I get that password prompt. Resetting the router fixes things for anywhere between 1-24 hours. Bought a new router (same kind) and things seemed better, then just dropped about 24 hours later... so yea, not the router's fault.

I started to wonder if someone in the neighborhood had started up something that was causing interference then ran into this thread.

I wonder if its not just so bad that iOS devices drop off and can't re-connect, but other devices (such as Dropcams, my Petnet wifi cat feeder, my Netatmo weather station, my Apple TVs, Macs etc.) all start to drop off together around the same time.

Is it the new iOS thats causing this? Seems impossible but it did start happening after my most recent iOS update. Hmmm.

I ordered a different brand router and will also test that. Guess I can return the 2nd Airport.

If all your devices have the same problem then most likely it's interference. If you open WiFi settings how many networks do you see? You can try changing channels in your router.

I was having this issue. Now, I haven't changed any router settings or iPhone settings... so I refused to accept that I needed to clear out my settings. I was willing to clear out my settings if NOTHING else worked.. but anyway I tried everything I could think of that didn't involve resetting all my settings. I rebooted my phone, I turned on airplane mode, I carefully entered my password a dozen times or more, I rebooted my router, I tried manually entering the SSID and security mode. Nothing worked.

Then, I was reading the posts where some people changed their password on their router and then changed it back the the iPhone connected both times. So I thought to myself, "What if I do it the other way around?" I had been entering the correct password on my iPhone when trying to connect to my SSID - and getting an error that it's wrong - "What happens if I actually enter a wrong password?" Crazy idea, I know, but I did it.. and it worked for me:

1) Intentionally entered wrong password for my wifi network when trying to connect

2) Received error (obviously)

3) Then tried correct password again

4) Connected successfully.

I agree that I have had more problems with my Apple stuff than I care to mention lately and I am no longer an Apple fan.

I figured my issue out... it was a bad DirecTV device of all things. It was flooding our network with traffic and the first thing that went was the wireless router as it couldn't keep up.

So there ya go, just as I was blaming Apple for all my faults it turns out to be something completely different.

Not that I'm excusing them from all fault (nobody is perfect, good luck finding someone who is) but so many people "no longer being fans" of Apple I think are overreacting. Networks can be tricky beasts and if everyone with iOS devices had the issues some were complaining about here you know dang well they would fix them. We're in an era where everything is becoming Internet connected, and our homes are dealing with more and more devices that can (and will eventually) cause issues/conflicts or configuration challenges.

This one issue is absolutely not the reason I am no longer an apple fan.

1) Bricked Apple TV out of the box, had to buy a USB cable to flash it on day one.

2) A few of the updates they released after that also bricked my Apple TV and had to dig out the USB cable.

3) Mavericks made Airplay choppy making my movies unwatchable, no fix YET for christ sake

4) UNTOLD number of wireless issues with EVERY apple device I've owned - not connecting to various access points around the world - 5ghz not working - etc. NOBODY else has issues connecting to these APs, just us Apple folks.

5) Reminder app notifications? They don't work.

6) Notifications in general? Buggy as heck.

I NEED notifications. So overreacting? Maybe but it's been a long time coming.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and despite billions in profits the warranty is not what it used to be and the service has gone downhill in apple stores. And build quality is poor for the last few iterations. Every apple device I've received has had some build defect.

it blows you have had so many issues. For every one like you I'd guess there are a dozen sick of Windows issues or other vendors screwing them... Apple should strive to keep their reputation but the market shows they are better than most.

grass isn't always greener. I've never been happier not to have to re image my PC every few months and enjoy my devices 500x more than ever. You couldn't pay me to use Android...

to each his own.

(and have never had the issues u describe other than wireless, nor heard anyone else that has...)

now now I could go off a bit about iTunes 😉

Itunes is another one to add to the list.

also, this website.

I am amazed how poorly it renders on the iPhone. It's really bad actually, and it seems to have a spell autocorrect feature that is extremely poor.

Many people have had the problems I've described - I searched these forums to find the solutions ( and Google, of course.)

I'd never switch to Android, but I have my eye on MS. They are catching up And might actually be worth my money sometime soon. I haven't reloaded my PC in years. I've switched the HW many times, but haven't reloaded since Windows 7

this happened to me all the time & i would always go over my data because my wifi would kick me off. When i tried to reconnect it would say "incorrect password" . We called ATT and the woman said they get calls like this all the time and its not the imtermet service, its Apple. She told us to change the name of my router, and the password. The password had to be ALL NUMBERS with no letters. She explained that Iphones have trouble remebering password with letters and numbers. I hope this helps some of you; its been working for me so far.

I hope people are having success with this problem. I was trying out several of the tips and found the "no security" on wifi worked for me. Funny thing is; my actual problem that I did not realize till later is that my device was out of storage. This caused the device to go haywire and never prompted the "almost out of space" until I got back onto wifi.

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

For those with Comcast, here's what worked for me: your Comcast wireless gateway came with factory settings, including one for the "key" or "password." Use that number when your phone asks for the wifi password. You can then change the Comcast router's name/password later. Here's a link to Comcast's instructions: https://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/internet/wireless-gateway-username -and-password/ ios update 9 seemed to make my phone stop communicating with my Comcast router -- very frustrating, took me 2 days of searching for a solution.
