Occasionally iPhone 6 won't rotate

Same problem here with iPhone 6 64GB on 8.0.2

Installed 8.1 and the rotation issue is resolved as far as I am concerned. Ahhhh now I can stop receiving all of these "me too" notifications.

I had this problem on my 5s and then my 6, and was able to fix it by recalibrating my phone's compass. Follow the instructions here: iPhone and iPad: Calibrating Compass and then reset your phone by holding the home button and lock button until it shuts off. Problem solved.

I am having the same issue too.

Bought an iPhone 6 128g from Japan today and noticed that the screen won't rotate to landscape mode. Turning rotation lock and off won;t help. Calibrating compass won;t help. Resetting to a new phone won;t help.

I am sobbing here.

Software update to iOS 8.1 solves the rotation problem.

I am currently using iOS 8.1. Updated yesterday. And the screen still not rotating.

Do you think I will get a new phone replacement from Apple if I send my phone to the centre?

I was having this no rotate issue with my phone among other issues such as, compass not working and the undo typing constantly popping up. I brought it to the Genius Bar last night and they issued me a new phone.

bby turning off zoom the rotate function works.

Just found out that the home screen of iPhone 6 won't rotate to appear as landscape provided that you are using iPhone 6 Plus.

There is no issue with my new iPhone 6.

Browsers or apps like youtube, gmail do rotate by themselves and have no problem showing in landscape mode.

So is it just me or has this problem not been completely fixed in IOS 8.1?

This problem started for me on my Ipad mini 2 ever since I updated to IOS 8 and also carried over to my new Iphone 6.

IOS 8.1 did not fix it.

I mainly notice this problem when using Whatsapp or clash of clans. When I open the application it will sometimes be in the wrong orientation and when I rotate the phone it will not rotate, what usually fixes it for me is if I double click my home button and go into multi tasking mode and then go back. I also noticed a video recording in the wrong orientation one time.

I would have blamed a hardware defect if it were not for my ipad having the same problem, which it did not have before.

iPhone 6 gets stuck tuck in messages and won't rotate.I have to close out then go back in to get the orientation to change . Happens more often than not and ios8.1 did not fix.

Same problem here. Closing apps and browser windows running in the background solved it for me.

Mines won't rotate .. Wondering if Apple has said anything about this ???

I have the same problem with my iPhone 6. I made a Genius Bar appointment and they did a restore and updated to 8.1.1. I got home and resynced to get my music back. It has now repeated locking in landscape with the notes and Safari apps. This never happened with my 4s. I wonder if the thinner phone is causing it. Different materials expand and contract at different rates as they heat up and cool down (coefficient of thermal expansion). This could easily be a thermodynamic issue. I design piston pumps and you can stick a cylindrical steel piston in a cylindrical bronze bore if you don't design in the correct clearance to account for different coefficients of expansion to temperature changes. An iPhone will heat up and cool down as you work it harder and let it idle. I am not convinced that this is a software issue. I will keep tabs on my 4s which I gave to my son. He reports that his 4s has never gotten stuck in landscape mode.

The other annoying problem that crops up is the phone often opens in landscape mode when I wake it from sleep. It will be sitting on a desk and I have to pick it up to get portrait, then put it down on my desk again to view messages.
