remote hotspot failure unable to start personal hotspot

Hi there

Got an iPhone 5s and iPad 4th gen both running iOS8.0. On the iPad I can see my 5s which shows battery, signal strength etc, however when I attempt to start the personal hotspot remotely, I get "Remote Hotspot Failure - unable to start personal hotspot on <my device name>".

I've ensured that both devices are logged into the same iCloud account. Both devices have had full network settings reset and the iPhone 5s was actually set up from new recently also. Using pesonal hotspot as normal works however I wanted to enable the remote part as it would be handy.

Anyone got any advice?

I had same problem but had to specify same APN parameters as the Celluar data APN.

Firstly, Launch the Settings app

Then tap on Cellular or Mobile

If you do not see the toggle for Personal Hotspot here, then tap on the Cellular Data, Scroll down, and under Personal Hotspot section, enter the same APN settings as the cellular data APN.

Go off the setting app and relaunch.

my solution: try turn off iPad Bluetooth, the personal hotspot which show the battery life one will disappear, now u can try again to link

Incredibly simple. It worked for me. Just change the name and voilá. I'm using OS9.2, Ipad Mini Retina 2 and Iphone 6/64GB

Reset network settings on client device and it will work immediately.

I resolved this with my cellphone provider (Verzion). Check with provider for account being blocked for this feature.

i Also learned that because Verizon uses CDMA for the older iPhones you cannot be tethered to LTE/data and also talk on the phone! VERY FRUSTRATING. They claim 6s use some other card and can be used at same time for hotspot and phone calls.

In Settings/iCloud you surely see your name and your mail address, which is registered as AppleID at nearly topmost position. It must be there! :-)
