This has been happening to me also and if I shut is off under Setting>General>Keyboards and then turn it back on again it resets PT but is still quite annoying to keep resetting.

Hi there nevadan61,

It looks like the User Guide has the information you are lookign for.

Enter text - iPhone

  • Hide predictive text. Pull down QuickType suggestions. Pull them back up when you want them to reappear.

  • Turn off predictive text. Touch and hold User uploaded file or User uploaded file, then slide to Predictive.

ANSWER:

You can quickly hide the little Quick Type drawer with a swipe gesture:

Tap and hold on any word in the QuickType suggestion box, then drag down to close the QuickType drawer

That’s it, if you want to see QuickType again, just swipe back up from that drawer on the iOS keyboard to reveal the suggestions again.

HI ajpolinske,

you are lucky. Turning predictive text on/off in Settings has no effect. There is no predictive text line in "messages", "mail", "Calendar" or "Safari" and the option when I touch & hold the keyboard "globe" is greyed out.

I DO get predictive text in "iLife" apps & "Notes" & strangely I am getting it while I write in this text box!!!!

I have exactly the same problem... Worse is that there is no information anywhere on Apple's sites or on the Internet whether or not there are restrictions to which applications can use predictive text and which ones cannot. E.g. why searching in Google the predictive text option is greyed out? Why there is no reference to such behaviour in the User Manual? Why is that in over a year there is no official response from Apple?

What was Jan's quick fix? What he suggests is merely the toggle option for PTs regular functionality, not for the "bug" iOS has which keeps losing the PT.

I am currently on a brand new iPhone 6s Plus with the latest iOS, 9.1.

I am having this problem on BOTH my iPhone and iPad!! The little "slider" that brings up predictive text is NOT there! My settings show "on" for predictive text yet it is gone from both devices. I am up to date using 9.3.1. I have shut down several times and still ... no predictive text!

Well, it came back! I don't know what did it but I fiddled around with trying to type and all of a sudden it popped back up! On the iPad it looks different from what I recall. There is no "slider" but that is OK . Seems like this enhancement might need a little more development!

I Have this same problem and kept wondering what I was hitting on accident to make my predictive text go away, I finally found a quicker solution to fixing this rather than going to settings > general > keyboards > Predictive text!! Yea me! L L

Turn off predictive text. Touch and hold your keyboard button (the round button at the bottom of your keyboard that changes between different keyboards, next to your number shift button, bottom left side) at the top you'll see "predictive text" then slide to Predictive! Voilà ❗️ Im not sure what I'm hitting to make my Predictive Text go away, I guses I could be doing that in a very fast motion while typing and not realizing it but this is a MUCH faster way to get it back up on your screen. I am using an iPhone 6S Plus, I'm pretry sure all newer iPhones are the same but I couldn't tell ya anything about androids.

I Hope this helped out, I tried to be as detailed as possible because I know how frustrating it can be. Good Luck & have fun‼️
