ios8 keyboard slow

my Retina display Ipad 2 has the following symptoms:

Keyboard is laggy and unusable in Safari.... just about ok in Chrome.

My keyboard shortcuts are no longer working.

I have tried resetting the device.

Many thanks.

That is one of the most widely used terms here and it means different things to different users. That can mean that you restarted the device, rebooted it or reset it to factory settings. If none of those things helped and assuming that if you restored to factory settings you also restored the backup, you can try to restore again as new.

Something select to try that is far less work, You can also try resetting all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

All of your settings will revert to out of the box status. You will have to enter your WiFi passwords again, you will have to turn Siri on again, reset your Privacy settings.... All of the settings in the settings app. You will not lose any data or media at all. I reset my settings yesterday and it really helped with the lagging keyboard.

Thank you for your time and consideration Demo...

By resetting the device - I mean in the sense of holding the home button and on button to reboot.

A strange thing has happened. I don't understand it but here are my findings.

These keyboard issues have been plaguing me all day. I need to use keyboard shortcuts constantly and Safari has been jammed up and pretty much unusable. Chrome was working better but still not happy.

I decided that before following all your advice and then resetting all settings as a first step that I would back the device up to my i cloud. incidentally the device was connected to my desktop and logged into ITunes.

After making the back up I used my mobile to make a short film of my keyboard shortcuts - there are loads and losing them was an issue for me but I was willing to swallow it in order to get going again. At this point I added a new single Keyboard shortcut to test.

I made a last minute check in Safari to see if the keyboard was still poggered and test the new keyboard short cut.

Lo and behold. Keyboard is working in Safari and my shortcuts too. It's still laggy but working at least.

Safari however did hang itself twice and returned me to the home screen- it's not perfect but a step in the right direction.

All I did was back up the device to Icloud?

Odd but true

Safari however has

Hi Demo,

An update for you - things went from bad to worse today so I opted for a factory reset.

Still the same Safari is hideous... the keyboard is lagging and unpredictable - chrome is slightly better and if I try to use personal keyboard shortcuts then its a 3 second wait.

I'm really quite annoyed with this now. I need this device out in the field daily and its virtually useless.... may have to charge up the Microsoft surface... it's crappy but works!!

I understand the frustration. I'm not wild about the way my iPad 3 is working in Safari either. The keyboard is almost useless at times here in the ASC forums when I am trying to use it. I'm considering restoring the device myself. Resetting settings works for a while, but that becomes tedious after a while.

iOS 8.0.1 Release Notes

This release contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Increases the likelihood that users of OSXDaily.com will actually read the release notes of an iOS update
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari

This is was taken from OSXDaily.com yesterday. The line in bold was something that they addes in jest, but the other "fixes" we're supposedly included in the update that wasn't.

IMHO, all of the fixes are not stated publicly when any system/software is updated. The more things that you admit to fixing - makes it look like the more things that you messed up to begin with. 😁

Well here's a little update for you all.

I bit the bullet today and went for 8.1 in the vain hope that it may clear up my issues with the lagging keyboard in Safari.

It's unusable and I've had to rely on Chrome to get any mobile work done....

So here it is.. I backed my I pad up to ITunes.... downloaded 8.1 into ITunes and then updated my I pad via I tunes to 8.1....

And Hey Presto!!!! Can you believe it?

IT'S STILL A POS!!!

I also have a paid for app that's decided it won't upload to Drop Box any longer

I find it inconceivable that Apple can't seem to sort this out.

I will never, ever for as long as I live spend another penny with these amateurs. The time and effort I have had to waste on such a matter as this is just not tenable any longer.

It's back to the Surface RT.

Both my iPod Touch and iPad mini retina lags slightly while typing, sometimes its more than slightly. For both it started just couple of months after buying, I'm guessing it happened after the iOS 7 update or some other ios update. What is this really? My devices are all ok and no other problem, iPod touch is still the latest version out and iPad mini retina was the latest gen until just weeks ago. So they should not be having problems with iOS 8.1 at all.

i have same issue to, but on my air 2. It also was on my old iPad 3 as well I believe. I think, similar to that other person my air 2?294&3: for a little while, but then... Hit with a laggy keyboard. For me though, it's nit just safari, but pages and I message too. Even none apple software like messenger. So to me it seems like it's just the whole keyboard across the system. And the lag is pretty often, I agree though, it's anoying.
