IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

I hear you....I feel the same....and it has been hard when you are working and this is not producing like it used to....after all, our time is valuable and I just don't want the struggle when I am trying to work. No it was not right...and they SHOULD have expressly warned those with older devices better...I was going to try to find out how much their buy back is...any idea?....My thoughts were to turn it in and get the new one, like you I am bummed, but I remember the day I ordered this one, and it was refurbished....and how I felt when the box came and I turned it on for the first time...remember that? well, it would be like getting a brand new car.....and we should be set (you would think) for another 3 - 5 years???? who knows? the way things are going out there, there might not be any satellites to run these things any longer. I checked out the watch, which I have no interest in...but I see it will not work right unless you have the iPhone.

They better do a good job letting folks know, don't you think?? LOL...they are in for a lot of disappointed folks if they are ASSUMING you have the iPhone.

Thanks again, I enjoyed your thinking as it is along my lines. ...stay tuned out there! Hopefully we will get a better fix yet...I am still holding out for that!

I've been a supporter of Apple for a long time and have bought 5 iPads for family members over the past few years.

They used to be better than "those of guys" in every way. Unfortunately, this is the official collapse of Apple as a dominant company because now ... they are "those guys". After up-grading from IOS 7-8 my iPad 2 64 GB Wi-Fi, is basically a paper weight.

I too am suffering all the pitfalls the majority on this post have complained about. I'm sitting 3' away from my wireless router that used to propel my iPad 2 at impressive speeds but now I wonder if it's actually working???? Launching an application is like watching paint dry. What is most mystifying, infuriating and insulting all at the same time, is just the simple "too bad" attitude that appears to be coming out of Apple over this IOS up-grade fiasco.

I expect crap to come out of Microsoft and instability to come from Android products. However, to have this junk passed off as an up-grade is pathetic and insulting to those of us that know Apple is simple forcing customers into purchasing newer iPads!

Must ... keep ... Chinese plants ... grinding ... out ... product!!!!

The person that mentioned they would have waited till the up-grades had been tested more, is completely missing the point. Apple is responsible for ensuring their product is bullet proof BEFORE being made available to the public. Furthermore, to prevent their customers the ability to revert to an IOS that has been found to be stable is just down right underhanded and justifies the label of Apple being called a corporate bully to its customers.

Tim Cook should be rocking the guillotine with those responsible for this latest fiasco. I used to purchase Apple because they were effortless in their performance and support. However, they are now officially as pathetic as Microsoft and some of the Android tablets. Disgusted.

I completely agree with you. This iOS update has been the worst from Apple ever. We pay premium prices for these devices. I use my iPad 3 on a daily basis, my most important application is the web browser and text editors. After upgrading to 8.0.2 I still find serious issues. Try to copy and paste. This feature is now a nightmare to use. Try to use the search feature or try to type something on the URL; the cursor moves in slow motion. I feel these updates are still in BETA release. How is it possible that a company like Apple releases a software so buggy. Where is their Quality Assurance Department?

I am now typing this message on my Windows machine, seating at my desk. My iPad is no longer a pleasure to use. My Windows machine is now more reliable, I can type fast without any annoyances from a buggy Operating System.

We demand that Apple respect us as customers by properly releasing software that works with the hardware that they promise that it will support.

I guess now Apple can't say "It just works" anymore.

Someone posted a a great response and it is now gone... How do I know? Because I have it in email.

if you try to view the response you get a message that access is restricted. How lame.

The moderators representing apple want this ugliness to go away. So they will censor it out of existence....

Question for you.... have you seen a single post saying how great their iPad is after the 8.x upgrade?

cannot say that there is any agenda here, but think about it, let us hope.....and expect that as the years go by that everything evolves, and hopefully, newer and better preformance. Otherwise we would still be in the horse and buggy....and cars would not be so cool....aren't we all on edge as the new year comes rolling out for the new technology?.....it happens and thankfully should....it does not fix our issues sadly, it only leaves us behind or we have to get more clever

This evening I went to my iMac to check my email....and I got a totally blank white screen....on my IMAC!!!

what is up with that?....It seems to me that this issue with ipad may not be selective to us low end iPad users, give this time, I think we will see this will be widespread and effecting all eventually. I was one of the first into apple purchasing a apple PC jr.....it was so horrible, that's when I went to windows. After so many years with windows base and it getting so terrible, when I tried out this ipad, I felt I had seen heaven...i immediately ditched all my windows based products and purchased my iMac....no I am getting scared....is this the end of the best? I have been trying to be reasonable here and figured in a short while we would see a real fix....a REAL FIX, am I wrong here?....I sure hope not....I will think twice before purchasing stock.

terribly buggy update.

my ipad still loses cellular connection and when I try to reboot which gives me the connection back, it's a slow reboot and I have to press the top button three or fine times to get the lock steen to appear so I can enter the passcode. The home button seems unresponsive.

overall, it's become much less stable than it used to be.

After upgrading my iPhone 4s to ios7 I lost wifi ability and eventually my phone started slowly to die. Apple told me it was because when an upgrade starts to install it checks unit for bad or broken things and then turns them off, so obviously my wifi thing inside the phone was bad- even though I never had a problem before. biut they would be happy to replace with the same model for $100. I had no choice and did. My hubby's ipad 3 started crashing all the time and getting very hot after only a half hour or so. Now with ios8 his iPad is working much better but my ipad 2 is slow, jumpy, and crashes. Apple support says it's not an actual problem- the 7 update and now the 8, but since you can find thousands of the same complaints on the web I realize their marketing plan is indeed to kill your old devices so you have to buy a new one. I did get the iPhone 6 but I think it will be my last Apple purchase. My son was going to get his first iphone for Christmas but I don't think so now. Also his iPod touch is virtually unusable now, and he is heartbroken. Way to go apple. You should change your name to lemon.

SOLUTION - I had to perform the hard reboot 3 times but afterwards my ipad2 was very responsive and back to normal. Mine is pretty full and I didn't have to delete anything.

1Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button. Hold both buttons for about eight seconds. This will force the iPad to turn off.

2Turn the iPad back on. Press and hole the Sleep/Wake button for a few moments. The iPad will turn back on and display the Apple logo.

This worked for me as well.....I just got a call from Apple. They are listening. They had me reset my wifi....do know that I did the 8.0.2 update...or whatever that fix was supposed to be, I did your hard resets on my own before I read your posting, and like you it did wonders....also followed another message where if you are in safari, to "pinch" that screen? Don't know about that, but it does seem to be working great.

Now on the battery life...it is terrible...no doubt about that...I seem to have to recharge everyday, which is unusual for me....anyway so far so good with the reset of my wifi...no hassles there....The apple technician did point out something VERY IMPORTANT...so listen up and maybe this will make sense to all of us out there...with the new update, this does NOT MEAN that the 3rd party apps or programs have been updated! So when you step back and think about it, that totally makes sense...so before everyone gets mad and chucks our ipad2's maybe it is worth the time to stop and think...what program you are in when it freezes up.......and if it is a 3rd party app or program, then you will just have to wait until THEY catch up.....makes more sense to me now...I do hope that the update to this update is indeed the real "fixer" and we can put this behind us.

Same. Safari and apps run VERY slowly since iOS 8 upgrade (including 8.0.2). Sometimes web pages won't open at all. Scrolling through a news article is almost impossible (no/intermittent touchscreen response). Apps freeze constantly then return to life after half a minute or so. All was fine prior to upgrade. Tried closing all background apps. Tried resetting. Still bad.

My iPad 2 has been suffering from most of the problems mentioned in this tread. I updated from iOS 8.0 to iOS 8.0.2 and there seems to be a small increase in stability and performance (perhaps it's just wishful thinking...).

One thing that seems to have actually helped some, is to go into general machine prefs and turn OFF everything that I do not use or need including background updating, searchlight, notifications (except for 3 that are critical for me), etc. etc. Go through every thing today and again tomorrow and SHUT THINGS DOWN. If you turn something off, you can turn it back on later; it will still be there. Also on the preferences pane, go through ALL the applications and turn off everything possible that involves background processes, unless something is really needed.
