IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

I have reloaded IOS 8 multiple times and our IPad 2 is still very slow compared to the other Ipad 2 we have running IOS 7. Apple really missed on

this change. We were just getting ready to replace our 2 PC's with Apple computers but have put that on hold. Apple is acting more like Microsoft in that you cannot trust the continuity of the software. I have no idea why they are not fixing these problems unless they just have no idea what is wrong. Speed and simplicity has been the strength of these Ipads. There are also many other problems with IOS 8. Multiple capital letters, Safari bookmarks will not close, email

white screen secs before opening are just some.

Please excuse me but it's not very often I post on this forum but I have noticed some comments about Apple not reacting to comments posted and others about posts being removed, removed by who, the "Apple keep every one quiet IT police?" I must assume then that Apple are well aware of this problem. Far for me to say but after the last couple of software rollout clangers is the company just trying to keep this under the radar to protect the share price?

I suppose compared to the people who need their i Pads for work I am lucky. I use mine as an aid to my hobby and just to carry out family admin. But I am in the same boat as every one else and getting very frustrated that my once perfect device, well to me it was, is now half it was. I'm not a big IT user or interested in the differing operating systems, it's just a tool to me and one I like to know will work just as I expect it too without changing a load of settings I'm not really sure of. That said I do like the Apple stuff, we have 3 i phones and 3 i pads in our house. (Lucky the others have not been "upgraded" to 8.0.2). I was looking at a Mac for an Family Xmas present. However I will not give a company more of my trade if I do not believe they will support their customers. The total non response from Apple To its customers on this issue is just not acceptable.

Many thanks to all you knowledgable people out there who have tried to fix and advise on this problem, it's just a shame Apple do not seem interested in doing the same.

Just feel disappointed and let down. Let's see what they say at the Apple shop next week.

So far, I have been making setting changes and the performance has indeed improved. Of course the performance is not what it was before with iOS 7, but at least the performance is much better.

I've done everything listed, multiple times, on multiple iPads suffering from the same issues... from iPad 2 64GB w/Verizon wireless (my main work device), to iPad 2 16GB w/o cellular, to iPad Mini Retina to iPad 3. My own, my customers (I think we're up to 27 clients with similar issues now), my employees, my family, my friends. I'm talking about being inundated with phone calls and emails and LOTS of conversations, taking up lots of my time. Time in which I am not generating billable hours to feed my family. Time which is not making my clients happy - so I cannot bill them either.

But last night takes the cake.... I have a second job, I play in a band, and the iPad I use to control our sound system was not cooperating. It controls on stage audio levels of our Mackie DL1608 board. The software kept crashing for no reason... Did a full restart of the iPad, no help.

There is only one app loaded on that iPad... So, I gave up on using it, and used my work iPad, which was working better.

Just used the other iPad to play some requested songs in the break.

Using the BUILT-IN music app... that crashed 3 times. It also would not play some songs, which is a new problem. And then it just spontaneously rebooted.

Do you know what is like to be playing "The Wobble" with 30+ people dancing and the house rocking, and then, .... silence?

It kept doing crap like that, all 3 breaks.... I was joking about "Do NOT upgrade your iPhone or iPad" on the mic while killing time while the iPad came back up. Found out a number of people there were having the same exact problems, so they were understanding.

The android/windows type smartphone users were not as understanding because they don't have those issues.

E M B A R A S S I N G!

I'm buying a cheap MP3 player to have handy at next weeks Biketoberfest event where there will be thousands of people. Not going to take a chance on this happening again.

Replying to myself.... Because I'm the only one who is listening to me....

I believe all the songs in my library have become corrupt. And worse, if I delete them, and try to redownload them - no go, it says it can't be downloaded at this time.... So I tried the same thing on another iPad, with similar results. Had my daughter try. Same thing.

So there may be a bug in the music app/itunes too. I'll go see if there is a cure for this one.

I knew the music app was slooooow, slow to display the songs, slow to start playing the first one, and on shuffle, sometimes, a second or two delay between tunes, but I had no idea there were these many issues with 8.0.2

OK, moderators- this is technical advice, so don't delete it.

in the 1970s if you bought a Jaguar you were advised to buy a Chevy to drive while the Jag was in the shop. I advise all Apple device users to buy a backup tablet or phone for when you need something reliable.

Apple markets its products as toys- we're fools to think they care about us business users.

That's exactly what I am having to do.... Since I am not going to count on Apple to release an update before this coming weekend, and I do need songs to play during my band's breaks for a very large event, I'm researching which basic mp3 players are out there. One thing that will stink about that is that I have hundreds of dollars tied up in dance, line dance and popular tunes that I am going to have to buy again, or convert from iTunes to mp3. Guess it will be worth it though to have it work right.

JohnMHoyt, I am listening and following the IOS 8 Beyond snafu issues. I have only begun to experience my IPad 2 problems. My fixes so far came from individual apps themselves. Sad! The slowness is not the biggest issue. Folks' who rely on their IPads for work is huge and Apple should hang their heads in shame. If Apple knew ( how could they not?) that this "update" would adversely affect IPad 2 and/or 3 loyal customers...why no warning not to update to "8"? I have an IPone 5, my husband bought for me last year for Christmas since I was used to the format. ( Not updated that yet.) He

has a newer IPad, no issues he is speaking of. My Christmas wish this year WAS a newer IPad. WAS! I am in the Hudson Valley. Apple season. Apple, stop worrying about picking apples and look toward your harvest. Too many rotten Apples are spoiling them all, the rotten ones being those that work "for" you and are doing notta to fix the ....up!

I can understand if Apple do not want to support the i Pad 2 anymore, that's fine, they are in business and want us to go out and buy their new devices. But they can't purposely screw your device up by letting you down load an upgrade that they must know will cause problems on the 2, would they? There was no warning or safeguards put in place to advise 2 users not to down load. With no response from Apple about this I can only assume they knew full well what would happen.

Isn't that immoral at best, illegal at worst? Looks like I will give it a week and if the store will not help and nothing is sorted I will have to pay for local SME to, I think the term is jail break? Anyway here is hoping Apple come clean. I get the feeling they are just hoping we will go away.

I spent the day yesterday in the Apple store - not due to my iPad 2's problems, but my daughter's new iPhone 6 and the ios 8.0.2 update not completing, screwing up her new phone, corrupting her latest iCloud backup from her previous iPhone so she couldn't do a restore.

Apple store appointment in the morning - sent home to try another backup - Apple store in the afternoon for a complete firmware reset - home in the evening to resync with iMac and copy photos, apps, music individually back to the newly reset phone. (Oh - had to stop by the ATT store to get the Visual Voicemail reenabled.)

As for the iPad 2, one tip that did seem to work (not from the Apple Genius but I told him about it in case he wanted to pass it along): Go to "Settings -General - Accessibility - Reduce Motion" and, if Reduce Motion is set to "Off" set it to "On". I saw this on this blog earlier and it does seem to make enough of a difference that I don't really notice any serious degradation in my iPad's performance.

No, this is not a deliberate plot by Apple to make you buy a new iPad. Given the number of iPad 2 users that seem to be having performance issues with iOS 8 I suspect there may be a performance bug or two in it specific to that model however.

This has happened before, several times in fact. The iPhone 4 initially had performance issues with iOS 7.0.x and the iPhone 3GS had some serious performance issues with iOS 6 as I recall. They mostly got sorted out by optimisations and fixes in later point releases, hopefully the same will prove true for iPad 2s running iOS 8 too. iOS 8.1 is apparently close to being released, fingers crossed that version will improve things for the iPad 2.

I went a year ago from Android devices to the Apple device because of some minor problems in Android.
After all this is a very big problem, so I switch back to Android again unless Apple gets resolved this in a hurry and do not make the same number again!
This is unsustainable and it is only arrogant companies entered in such a way!
So get your finger out Apple!
Thanks for destroying my Ipad 2 experience

Not sure if this is of any help but i've found that going to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and going to the contacts section and setting the 'Show In App Switcher' to OFF tends to speed things up a bit, there is still some lag and still some jerkiness but there seems to be an improvement in speed. I also am not seeing as many app crashes as well
