IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

Seriously naive comment comparing this to a hospital.

Not at all. It would be like taking a visitor to see your country (let's say the USA) and taking them to hospitals across the country, and saying, "This is our country!" The visitor would say, "Oh my God! Everyone is sick in the USA!"

Of course, those hospitals represent only a very, very small minority of the country, at any one time. You can't say that these people "in the hospital" and their condition while they are there "represents" the country.

That's what you're trying to say by people coming to "this hospital" (where users talk to other users to fix their devices) and think that this forum represents by any degree at all, the installed user base and how it is doing.

Out of forty million devices, hundreds of people are commenting and thousands are not. Any analytical/statistics professional will tell you that this represents a significant percentage.

Hundreds may be commenting about a problem here and a problem there and talking about how to fix things ... but MILLIONS are not, because they're doing okay with their iOS devices and the upgrade to iOS 8.

HHas anyone who has posted their problem here tried the Apple Support route and failed to get satisfaction? I recall a number of posts earlier claiming that they had contacted Apple Support and did not have success with the process. Please let us hnow if you did have success and if you can identify the Genius Bar location, that would be great (if it is close, I'll go there), or the Apple Support person who successfully brought your iPad two back to iOS 7 performance levels. Just getting embeded videos to work again would be nice. And, there seems to be some sessions control issue with Safari that I encountered using Safari to manage a website via the website control panel that I had not had in the past - making the iPad no longer useful for remote administration.

LOve the double caps and repeat letters - adds a new dimention to the English language and grammar.

@Star Traveler - Oh, I see, you think my posts are "name calling." Excuse me, but if memory serves me correcity, each user picks their own screen name. That would mean YOU picked "Star Traveler," not me. So if you prefer traveling the stars as your screen name indicates, that's up to you. However, most of us are interested in the iPad 2 and iOS 8 here on Earth.

Speaking of the Genious Bar as you did in an earlier post, I thought I was a "Genious" when I gave up on Android tablets and bought an iPad 2. Silly me, I'm not a Genious after all. Actually I think it was a very stupid move. Oh well, live and learn........

Keep in mind that Apple is selling at its online store ... the iPad 2s ... right now as we speak. If you want to see how those iPad 2s actually work with iOS 8 (namely the ones that are shipped out to customers "today" from Apple ... just reset your iPad 2 right back to the factory default setup. And test it out, and you'll see exactly how someone else (who gets their iPad 2 from Apple TODAY) will have their iPad working. Your iPad 2 will work exactly the same way ... in other words, it will work just fine.

But, as always, make sure you do a backup first, before you reset it back to factory default conditions. And also, do not reload your data on it just yet. You're going to see what the "baseline operation" is for an iPad 2 that Apple sells TODAY in its online store!

IOS 8 is like pulling teeth.

It has not given me or anyone I know new features that are wanted or needed.

I use my ipad for work but currently have gone back to pen & paper and wait until I get back to a desktop to fill out invoices & electrical certs.

All aspects from browsing to watching you-tube videos are now not possible on the ipad due to the very very slow loading or running of apps.

They all worked fine on IOS 7 to the point I was looking at buying a second ipad as filling out forms was quick and easy. Not now!!

Apple pull you head out the clouds and just go back to making your software reliable.

(P.S try & employ some genius that don't have large chips on the shoulders !! )

If you're expecting your iPad to work the same way it worked as in iOS 6 ... then I see your problem right away. It won't. As every upgrade comes out, it's always more demanding in its computing power required ... until the time comes when a device can no longer be upgraded to the current version. That point has not come with iPad 2, however ... because (and as I said earlier) ... Apple is selling TODAY ... iPad 2s on their online store site, and Apple allows it to run on iOS 8.0.2. SO ... that's a very clear indicator that it's fully functional, right now, today - as we speak - and that's what a new buyer of this iPad 2 would get from Apple, when Apple ships it out to them.

What I am saying is that you need to see what your iPad 2 is doing - right now today - in the condition that Apple is currently selling to new users, and that Apple will ship out today. THAT does give you a baseline to operate from and to KNOW exactly what you can expect to get (and not expect to get what you did from iOS 6 ... :-) ...)

To address your question, as well as the concerns of Star Traveler, who seems to think we're all just sitting around complaining because we're too stupid to call tech support:

On Thursday, September 18th I brought my iPad2 to my office to sync and backup the device, which I do on a fairly regular basis. I received notification to upgrade the device to IOS8, which I did. When I got home I immediately noticed degradation in performance, and later at a meeting I discovered my data no longer worked. The next day, Friday, I called Apple, who suggested I take it to a local Apple store to have them look at it. I called and set up an appointment for the next available convenient time, which was 5:30 Monday afternoon, the 22nd.

My first contact at the genius bar was a dumpy middle-aged hipster wanna-be with a stupid hat who asked me, “What do you expect for free tech support?”

While I was waiting for a “genius” I called tech support from the store. After 45 minutes I finally got an escalation agent, Pamela, who handed me off to a genius bar employee, Pat.

Pat told me I couldn’t remove iOS 8 and restore to the previous operating system, even though I was willing to wipe my iPad and reinstall all the apps and programs by hand. “It can’t be done,” he said. Pat told me there was nothing Apple could do for me, but the next update might fix the problem.

I upgraded to 8.0.2 as soon as it became available, and also spoke with Joey R. iOS Senior Advisor, who listened to my story, asked a few questions and handed me off to Escalation Agent Sergio S. who told me that there was nothing Apple could do for me, that the iPad 2 was at the end of its service life and that he would send me $70 worth of accessories from the Apple store for my trouble.

I found out on October 2nd (too late) that Apple was “signing” iOS 7.2 for users who wanted to downgrade until September 27th- far into my many hours of pleading with Apple “geniuses” and others who told me it couldn’t be done.

I went back to the Apple store on October 3rd, and spoke with an Apple employee who told me I never should have upgraded to iOS 8.

I am now on IOS 8.0.2- the latest iteration as of this writing, and the device is still almost useless.

The iPad2 is almost universally unable to function with this software, and the Apple Support Community is full of people in the same situation as me, with iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad Minis that no longer function.

@Star Traveler - A couple of questions.

1. Can you provide an Apple link where Apple is selling the iPad 2 with iOS 8?

2. Why did Apple allow iOS 8 to be installed on the iPad 2 when they knew or shoul have known the iPad 2 is not capable of handling iOS 8?

3. Have you notiiced all the posts with a double letter at the beginning of the post? LLike this? If you think people are doing this on purpose, I have news for you. The SSecond letter is being added by Safari. I guess that's "normal" operation for an iPad 2? I ddon't tthink sso.
