Iphone 5s battery drain IOS 8

After updating to IOS 8 my battery life has significantly decreased for the worse. After getting a good 8 hours of use with IOS 7 on a full charge i am now lucky to get about 4 hours before my battery dies with only moderate usage. Also my iPhone now gets extremely hot when i use for a period of about 5 minutes or more. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Replacing the battery is not a solution. I had my iPhone 5 battery replaced last week under the current recall campaign, but it made no difference to the battery draining problem. So far the only help seems to come from turning off as many location service items as possible as well as using all the tips given about background app refresh, notifications, push etc.

My iPhone 6 was getting really hot and my battery was draining really fast (when I was using safari or any random app).

I could fix the problem by removing completely the app "imonitor for ios8". Even though I didn't activate the widget of this app in notification center it kept draining my battery. I think there is a bug with the new widget feature...

I think what is the most frustrating is that Apple is not even acknowledging the problem. Then you don't know if they are even working on a fix! I am beginning to think they can't be bothered because they don't want to concentrate on an older product since you can go out and spend more money to buy the newest i-phone. $$$$$$😠
