iPod Sync fails with Mazda 6 after upgrade to iOS 8

After upgrading my iPhone 4 from an iOS 7.x version to iOS 8 I can no longer attach my iPhone 4S to my Mazda's multimedia system. Well that's'so not quite true. I can attach but I get an "iPod Sync error" on the USB/iPod tab in my multimedia system. The same connection with iOS 7 worked without any issues. I was able to retrieve my songs and play them in my Mazda's multimedia player in the USB/iPod tab.

I think this has to do with the iOS upgrade. I have shutdown the phone with HOME and POWER Button, but no difference.

(Oh and just in case you're wondering, I had to write this discussion with white letters on a white background in Apple Safari on iPad with iOS8, so please excuse the typing errors. I then had to switch to Google Chrome to finish off the question because the communities page wasn't loading correctly on my iPad with Safari which has been upgraded to iOS8.)

I am really looking forward to a fixed version of iOS8 so that I can again play my songs in iPod mode while loading my iPhone via the USB cable in my Mazda 6 Revolution.

On a side note: I do not have any Bluetooth issues as others have encountered. My Mazda can play songs via Bluetooth and take calls. No issues here.

This is such a mess.

I had called Mazda customer service before IOS8 had come out, because I was nonplussed by the way the iPod connection worked anyway and had heard there was a fix being worked on as the Mazda implementation was suspect.

I was told there was a fix, and got my car booked in to replace the USB/Bluetooth module.

However now USB doesn't work at all (iPod error) and Bluetooth now insists on playing my songs in alphabetical order. This will probably muddy the waters and give Mazda enough wiggle room to blame apple for all the problems.

How does one go about reporting a bug/issue? I also have this problem in a 2015 Mazda 6 - worked fine with iOS7, and I believe (but not 100% certain) with iOS 8.0.0 - it as when I upgraded to 8.0.2 that I specifcally noticed it. Forunately Bluetooth audio works - though one of my two iPhone 5s's (personal / work phones) won't connect audio for voice-calls, even after deleting & repairing that phone.....

The car's head-unit has some issues of its own - but things worked properly before in this regard....

I figured out the solution and it has worked for me on a consistent basis!

IT TAKES NO HACKING THE IPHONE OR THE CAR STEREO IN MY 2015 MAZDA 6.

SUPER EXCITED I WAS ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT, WAS GOING ON A MONTH OF NO USB TO IPHONE 5 and prior to that it was hit and miss since April 2015 when I acquired the car.

So, if Apple Support wants to know what I did to get it to work as well as Mazda, they can contact me and run the gamut to see if it works for them.

I had hoped that the new update would help me as well, but it hasn't. I updated to IOS8.1 this morning but still got the error message when I tried to connect through the USB port. This is just beyond annoying! I LOVE my new car and I LOVE my new iPhone but the fact that for all this money spent, they won't play nice together is just plain dumb on the manufacturers part. I haven't contacted my dealer yet but it sounds like that didn't help you anyways. I do not know what to do next besides just tell everyone do NOT buy the expensive stereo system from Mazda but spend it on a system elsewhere that actually will work with the most recent technology available.

I upgraded my 2 iPhone 5s phone to iOS 8.1 today. On one phone, I no longer get the iPod Error message on the Mazda 6 head unit. On the other - I still do. The one that works has a much smaller music library - 88MB vs. 7.5GB on the phone that still has an error. I am guessing that there is some size limit in which things are failing.... though before iOS 8, this all worked fine.....

Very much would be interested in the work-around myself...... why not post it up here....
