iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hi

I have AT & T iphone 6 Gold 64GB I have no scratches and I bought my otter box defender just prior to getting my iphone 6 and I found it in stock at Target they just got a shipment but was unusual that they had a 64 GB and only got 1 and the other 2 were 16 gb. I can't go down in GB as I had 32 gb in my iphone 5. Which didn't have any scratches as I always had kept it in my otter box defender I had to buy one more otter box as my first one the clip had broke and got a deal on the pink one with outdoor camouflage look to it. The only complaint I have with the otter box is the clip breaks usually on impact as mine has flew off a treadmill or drop off a stepper or elliptical but never no damage to my iphone 5 and so far I haven't drop this one or hasn't gone flying as of yet. I cant wait to get new colors and pink and white is getting boring I need some purple! I want to have a iphone 6 plus came close in getting one but drove all the way to apple to get a plus 128 gb gold but someone beat me to it. So called target they had it in and I stop at best buy to check and also pick up my otter box due to target did not have them in stock. Only colors available were black or pink/white combo. I like it is 3 layers or protection but at times its hard to take them apart or line them up but its best protection that I highly recommend Its worth the $50 and when they come out with the iphone 6 plus otter box defender it will be more than $50. Always protect your iphones I know many don't like the way they cover up there nice phone but is it worth getting scratches or having damage to it. I rather have it in case then not have in a case. I be scared something bad would happen to it. I just believe in protecting our expensive electronics

Same issue here. Small scratch in lower left corner of screen. Phone is extremely well taken care of and has been in a case since phone exited the original AAPL packaging.

Called 800- MYiPhone to cordially ask about what sort of recourse I might have, was immediately put on hold after the explanation for my call (representative did not ask or mention anything about putting me on hold, just left me) then i was taken off of hold and PROMPTLY hung up on.

So far this has not been a pleasant experience...will report back, hoping for a positive reversion.

Here we go….

So after the Apple Store denied me for “cosmetic damage” I went back to online support. They were very nice and said I should get a replacement through the Online Store customer support.

So called them, they too were willing to replace my phone since I was still in the 14-day return window, but I had to mail my phone in. I couldn’t do that because I need a phone for business so they sent me to Apple Care, who they said could take care of me.

Apple Care would replace my phone, but wanted to use one of my two incidents. That was unacceptable, so my next option was back to the Apple Store - if they have a replacement in stock.

Called the nearest Apple Store this morning and they wouldn’t tell me if my phone (silver, 64gb, 6) was in stock, but said they had “a lot of inventory.” I went in anyway.

Armed with my conversations, they gladly set up my return. But they were out of stock with the phone I wanted. They wouldn’t let me replace the phone another day because it was under contract with AT&T and AT&T won’t break the 14-day rule.

Then talked with AT&T, they couldn’t do anything for me other than send me a Galaxy S4 while I waited for me iPhone to come in.

Finally, decided to return the iPhone 6. Restore my old iPhone 5 and wait to buy a new iPhone another day.

So… 2 trips to the Apple Store, 3+ hours on the phone and several gray hairs later…. I’m on the verge of settling the matter.

Moral of the story #1: Apple Store managers and online customer service managers need more power to break protocol to fix individual problems. Especially when Apple is at fault.

Moral #2: If you are in the 14-day return window, tell them your phone came defective and they should help you.

I chatted with a rep here at home about what could be done for my Space Gray iPhone 6 and the mysterious scratches that were forming. I got no where as they told me it wasn't covered under warranty, but suggested I visit the Apple Store to see if they'd do anything for me.

I've determined that my scratches are coming from my wedding band as I keep my phone in my left pocket and my ring must sometimes graze the screen as I drop it into my pocket. I've had an iPhone 4S, 5, and 5S and have kept the phone in the same pocket without any scratching. So bizarre that grazing my wedding band would scratch the screen when I have seen videos of people jamming keys into these things without incident.

Anyways, I went to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store and was helped by a gentlemen in his late 20s. He wasn't terribly friendly and seemed to be very tired. He looked at my check in report, examined the phone, asked me if the scratches were from my keys. I said no and suggested my wedding band. He said it was possible that that was the cause. He claimed they're using the same glass on the new iPhones are the previous models. Without saying anything else he left and returned with a new phone for me. He replaced it claiming that it was so new that he didn't want to replace the screen on it. He also said replacing the screen would take about an hour and they seemed rather busy. I'm not sure if I lucked out because the store was busy or if this guy would have hooked it up regardless, but I got what I wanted and am very glad I went in to the store to talk to someone.

Now I need to be ridiculously careful with my new phone as I am paranoid of scratching it. I haven't even removed the plastic it comes with.

For what it's worth, the guy I talked to at the genius bar said no one else has come into the store with this problem. I imagine we are in the vast minority here.

Just an update. My original iPhone 6 (gold 64 GB), did get scratches within a week, and numerous hairline ones after 2 that continued to pop up. Since then, my iPhone has been replaced and over the past week and a half, I have acquired 0 scratches. No screen protector (I'm like Jobs, I feel a screen shouldn't have to have a protector). During the first week, the phone was used with a case covering the back and lipping over the front (like was with my original iPhone 6). For the past few days, I've been using it naked with no repercussions.

same as you, space gray 6 64GB.

didn't do any official statistics, but so far it seems like 64gb is the most common denominator out of the small amount of users who have reported. cant think of a way HD space has anything to do with it other than linking certain models/makes might be coming from a specific manufacturer/plant. think the 2nd most common was space gray models.

maybe. while I appreciate your empathy, that was not the intent of my post

i mean, its rather subjective if you think about it. the majority of people have issues with the glass and believe either the screens/coating scratch easily and this small percentage of products tend to get dinged up much easier than the other iphone 6's out in the market. ive only owned two iphone 4's which i believe used glass instead of aluminum on the back (could be mistaken, correct me if im wrong). after nearly 3 years of use, i cant find a single scratch on either device. seems like every post including mine has a problem with their iphone 6 that was developed before the customer even received the product.

so the way i look at it (completely biased of course) is that there's an issue/defect for a small percentage of phones coming straight from the factory (hence, manufacturing defect for warranty replacement), and the fact that most people have reported their older iphones were significantly more resistant, implies this is a direct byproduct of Apple's manufacturing process (and not the telecoms who act as middlemen).

the truly great companies known to have outstanding customer retention have a reputation to uphold (think Costco, Amazon, Harley Davidson, Starbucks, Zappos, Nordstrom) so they care about their image among (potential) consumers and tend to address matters like this quickly and efficiently, especially when it involves a loyal customer who has a high lifetime value. companies have personalities, just like humans, and in the end actions speak louder than words. behavior can be indicative of the company's collective personality, or simply the vision of the CEO and how he or she wants to lead them towards that direction. how Apple handles this, if they even acknowledge it, is something ill be paying close attention to..

128GB Space Gray 6 Plus...

Fine scratches left of ear speaker, across the display, and in to the bezel area. Can't feel them with my finger nail. Looks like smudges. Smudges that won't wipe off.

Also have what appears to be a white dot to the left of the Touch ID button. Can't feel that either. Looks like perpetual dust or lint spot. But it's not dust. Or lint.

Every smudge now provokes an anxious, audible, "ahhh, bleep! Not again...bleeping bleep bleeper" Etc etc. good times.
