iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

"...cant think of a way HD space has anything to do with it other than linking certain models/makes might be coming from a specific manufacturer/plant. think the 2nd most common was space gray models."

This. The way to figure out whether it is a certain batch from a specific factory is to check the info in the serial number, as it provides info on the model, the factory where it was produced and the year and week it was produced. You can find the serial number on the phone under "Settings, General, About." You can decode the serial number using this site, http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html I found this on the MacRumors boards, here - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1777380

I have a 128GB, Gold, iPhone 6 that I received on 9/19. Last weekend I noticed a big scratch across the upper corner of the screen while using it in the sunlight. Looking more closely I saw more smaller scratches on the screen. I've had iPhones 3GS, 4 and 5 and never saw a scratch on the screen so did not consider a screen protector to be neccessary. I had put a folio case on my iPhone 6 right away so I was shocked to see scratches. Yesterday I went to the Genius Bar at the Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara. They looked at the scratches and asked if I knew how they got there. I told them I didn't know, I had just noticed the scratches when I was out in the sunshine over the weekend. I was told my iPhone 6 was still under warranty and they would replace the screen at no cost, which they did. I put a screen protector on it immediately, I'm not taking any chances. I hope everyone who finds scratches on there new iPhones takes them in to an Apple store so Apple can track this issue.

Adding myself to this list as well. Had an iphone4 for 3+ years without a protector or any issues whatsoever. iPhone6 for a few weeks and have 1/2" scratch in lower left corner and a bunch of tiny scratches in a patch on the lower right corner. According to the serial number site, here are my details:

Type: iPhone6 64GB Space Gray

Production: Week 37

Factory: F1 (China, Zhengzhou - Foxconn)

I need to replace my phone under warranty anyway because I ALSO have the problem with the loose mute toggle... when in mute, the phone goes in and out of mute as the switch wiggles (but doesn't go fully to the non-mute side). Therefore, the phone is vibrating on and off in my pocket making me think I'm getting text messages or something. Very annoying and cheap quality (again).

Apple does have some kind of policy to treat warranty issues differently if you buy directly from them or elsewhere. Although, unlike the person who posted here, I was on the good side of that. I had a couple times where I had a problem and the genius said well since you bought it directly from us we will fix it or replace it. I never really thought about it the other way but that is not right to treat someone differently because they bought the device from a 3rd party retailer.

nice. ya, that's the site i used to find manufacturing info from the serial. think the model # might help too. interesting to note that the "nice name" says GSM even tho it supposedly should be a CDMA phone from Verizon. Although the family name A1549 is used for both a set of GSM & CDMA phones. Trying to find out if its unlocked but unable to track down a reliable site to do so.

Model: MG632LL/A

Nice Name:iPhone 6 (GSM/North America)

Machine Model:iPhone7,2

Family name:A1549

Group1:iPhone

Group2:6

Colour:Space Gray

Production year:2014

Production week:40 (October)

Model introduced:2014

Capacity:64GB

Factory:F1(China, Zhengzhou - Foxconn)

note: issue with my iphone is not due to screen (yet), rather the apple logo on the back was scratched before i even took off the screen protector while it was still in OEM box.

iPhone 6 Space Grey 64gb. Horizontal one centimetre scratch either from new or within one day. Phone never taken outside, protective sleeve simply removed, phone used normally navigating around the menus for about ten minutes, noticed ALOT of finger print smudges after this (lacklustre oleophobic coating??) so took a lint free microfiber cloth and cleaned it. After cleaning it the light highlighted the scratch, so the YouTube videos of people stabbing the iPhone with scissors etc are not real world tests (no surprise there). It seems a grain of dust/ dirt even if it came from inside a house when inadvertently rubbed across the screen when cleaning is enough to cause damage. Many people will not notice it though, as it is like a little car panel ding. You have to look at the right angle and in the right light for it to be visible. However, once it is visible, you cannot escape it, and really such a premium device should not be getting roughed up quite so easily.

Just to comment on what to do about this issue.

I was reading this thread after experiencing similar problems. Lots of 'micro' scratches that you can see in certain light, but not feel. I took the advice of some here and went on the Apple Support Chat. The first solution the representative came up with after I explained the problem was: 'If you would like, we can replace the phone and get you a new one'.

I was pretty shocked as that's amazing customer service. I now have an appointment at an Apple Store close to my place to get my phone replaced tomorrow. I will report back after.

Same issue here. 2 Plus's and a 6 in the house. This is on top of tons of other Apple products.

We now have scratches in all phones that are pampered and babied.

I put screen protectors on today. Hate the look of the screen with screen protectors and why I never put them on older phones. But I'm not sure what the other option is.

Tim Cook is supposed to be a supply genius. But he's a genius in the wrong direction. As long as Apple stock flies high thanks to selling devices in growth markets like China, we're stuck with this guy mucking things up.

IF Apple fixes this issue - but don't bank on Cook doing that - I'll ultimately do a swap using my AppleCare+ rights. Will pay the $50 or $70 or whatever it is once I see that a new process produces quality glass. But I am not banking on that happening under Cook's "leadership."

I am sooo hoping that Microsoft's new CEO comes up with a mobile strategy that helps a complete ecosystem swap from Apple to Microsoft. Cook will still get to keep all the money he made and Apple will be on the decline, but we'll at least be away from his poor treatment of consumers.

They don't. Your particular Apple Genius may have said that, but it's the same standard warranty and coverage whether you buy it from Apple directly or from an Apple Authorized Retailer. Officially, there is no difference. Unofficially, if you're in a 'grey area' (something that isn't covered under warranty), and the Apple rep has the discretion to approve or deny a service, they might lean toward approval based on a lot of factors.

For example, if you're one day outside of your warranty, and you politely request that Apple consider granting you an exception for your issue, you are far more likely to get such an exception granted, than if you are six months outside of warranty and make loud demands that they better fix it or else.
