iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

Not everyone enjoys using a screen protector on their phone. I know I used them on my iPod Touch 2G, 4G, and 5G (Official Zagg) and didn't really like having the thicker screen protector. It also didn't play well with some cases... I also used a screen protector on my iPhone 5s (both glass type and a standard Zagg-type, from and not from Zagg) and found that all screen protectors ended up making it hard to clear off the oil from my home button which would make the finger print reader less than accurate. Removal of the screen protector allowed for this.

So with the limited compatibility of cases and the fact that glass phones shouldn't need a screen protector (they're glass), the coating should be better, the screen protector is not always the best option.

The nice thing about this Zagg Glass for iPhone 6 is it is completely compatible with cases. I have a case on the phone and the screen protector doesn't come in contact with it. I don't really care if anyone gets one or not. I do think if people are concerned their phone's screen might scratch, they have ways to avoid it by putting a good quality screen protector on their phone.

It's the owner's choice. But they shouldn't really complain if they don't and they get scratches. Glass can scratch and while iPhone has infused glass that should be harder to scratch, it CAN scratch. And it anyone thinks Android phones from Samsung, LG etc., are less susceptible to scratches, they should go out to the "other" forums. There are loads of complaints about scratched screens.

If the screen wasn't glass, I'd agree with you. But glass is a hard material, chemically speaking, and should scratch this easily.

But no one, not even Apple has claimed the glass can't scratch. They've said it's more difficult to scratch, but that doesn't guarantee 100% scratch resistance. Maybe your expectations are simply too much. But since there is a way to protect your glass from EVER scratching, I said this before and I'll say it again, you only have yourself to blame if you don't protect your screen and it scratches.

I never stated that it was scratch proof (or insinuated that idea). What I'm saying is that soft materials should not be able to scratch what is a hard material. If people were going out and burying their iPhones in sand or placing them in pockets laced with diamonds or iron filings, then yes, it's their fault. But if they aren't around anything that is hard enough to scratch glass (soft on the mohs scale)... Then you really can't say that they are entirely to blame.

Also, if the curved screen is causing cracks in the oleophobic coating, then it is a manufacturing error, something Apple would have to figure out on their own. Note, if this is the case, if the curvature is causing the coating to crack (and create hairline fractures), then this will happen with or without a screen protector. The screen protector basically works to mask it at this point.

So before we start pointing fingers, let's figure out what is causing the scratches in the first place.

I've had my iPhone 6 for 4 days, today I actually only today noticed that I have 2 very small scuff scratches on the top end of my phone. These scratches are only visible when I shine light over my phone though, they are not very noticeable. But besides the fact, I have a screen protector on my iphone and a case, so there is no way I scratched it. I'm pretty sure it came like that. But if this is true, and people are getting the new iPhone's scratched so easily how are these scratch and drop tests ending in such surprising results? Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYJBwIhmK60 and skip to 9:00. The man is essentially applying full force to his iPhone 6 with a knife and the screen is still untouched....Explanation? 😕

There are two ways scratches can happen. Either through a structural deficiency in the design of the phone (curved screen might create this, it might not). This technically isn't a scratch, it's a crack/fracture (if this is a possible case, the coating is cracking, not the screen itself). Or it's a true scratch where something harder than the iPhone's screen scratched the screen.

However, the video is the latter case that is being tested and the knife is chemically not as hard as the glass, so the glass will win out. Force doesn't play a factor here as we're testing how to scratch, rather than how to snap/break (force would allow him to break if he applied enough, but not scratch). Chemical hardness comes into play with scratching, force and hardness play factors when it comes to breaking/snapping. So that's the explanation for the video.

I think you're one of the few here that got a scratch while it was covered with a screen protector. If you didn't scratch your phone before you put the protector on, or it didn't come like that, then that might mean there is something in the design of the phone that is causing this.

yep same here. I take extremely good care of my new iPhone, i've had it for less than a month now, and i already have lots of hairline scratches on the screen! They're not a huge problem, i can only see them when i clean the screen with a microfiber cloth and point it directly into the light, but it sort of disappoints me. I expected the sapphire rumoured, but the keynote yielded no such fact. I hope somethings really goes wrong with my phone so i can use the apple warranty and get a new one once i have a life-proof case, and protect it instantly.

Well, if it's an external element that's causing it, something outside of the screen (something getting through the screen protector and onto the screen), then no, it shouldn't get worse. Generally, the suggestion is that once you start seeing these (assuming that some external object scratched it), a screen protector will stop it spreading, otherwise, it'll get worse. However, if the scratches are coming from some internal force, then yes, it will get worse even with the protector. The protector should slow down any sort of spread of the scratching though if it doesn't completely stop it.
