iOS 8 loaded. Pop3 now defaults to IMAP. E-mails coming to phone from PC now autodelete as soon as they open. Can't change IMAP to pop3 on phone, which could fix problem. Internet provider uses pop3 server.

iOS 8 loaded in to iPhone, but now messages forwarded from my pop3 account delete as soon as they are opened. Others don't arrive at all, but show up on my PC. I note that my phone has changed to IMAP from my iOS 7.xxx pop account. Any ideas as to how to change back to pop account or just keep messages from deleting? I understand that IMAP allows deletions on one device to delete on all devices. Don't want that to happen. Need my pop3 back.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8

That is it: delete current IMAP account, then make a new account using an incorrect/misspelled e-mail account or misspelled password associated with a current account. Doing so will put a screen that allows you to choose between IMAP or pop.. Wish Apple would just put out this information for one and all. Or better, give users the option to go IMAP or pop with their software. Users shouldn't have to "fool" the software to get what they want.

THANK YOU SO MUCH !! Used to be simple to add a POP server with 7.x. Guess mine auto carried over with upgrade to 8.x. Had a problem and iPhone tried to auto repair but auto-repair tried to set up as IMAP. Tried just about everything and this was the fix.

APPLE - ARE YOU LISTENING? This is unsat !! Please fix if you are listening!

I totally agree with you on how you scan email with iPhone and work it at the office. It is not practical to get into detail when traveling or on the phone. Also, when I accidentally delete something it doesn't go to all devices making it harder to find when I realize my mistake. (I delete a LOT of email and sometimes get quick on the trigger.)

Works perfect on other devices (PC, macbook pro (Yosemite) using Apple Mail, another iPhone, and an iPad).

Note: The issue is getting to the setup screen for POP3 as iOS 8 on iPhone defaults to IMAP. You have to trick it by making a mistake in the email account address to get the phone to bring up the IMAP/POP setup screen that allows you to choose IMAP or POP at the top of the screen. Once set up for POP everything works correctly. You just cannot enter a POP address in the default IMAP setup on the iPhone.

Not sure what happened to get me in this predicament on my iPhone but it tried unsuccessfully to perform the "Repair" function when I was prompted. I eventually had to delete the mail account, add the "new" account with an incorrect address to get the IMAP/POP screen, select POP, and then reenter the address correctly with POP selected. No issues since.

Has anyone found a solution for getting a gmail account set up as a POP account? When I add account, it actually goes to a page that lets me choose between IMAP or POP, but even though I repeatedly select POP, it always treats it like IMAP - ie allowing the message to download only once to either my phone or my laptop, but not to both.

Thank you diana222 - this worked perfectly for me and has saved me a ton of time in researching a fix for the issue. I have 3 email accounts on my phone - (all outlook) - interestingly when the update came out only one of the accounts changed to imap. The other two remained pop3 accounts. The account that changed to imap was not my main account.
