Verizon iPhone 6 Signal Problem

I have an iPhone 6 64gb on Verizon Wireless. I have noticed a problem with my cell signal/reception. In an area where I have 5 bars in LTE, it will seemingly drop to 2 at random. Then, if I make a call, the bars will come back up to 5 after the call is complete. It will do this multiple times throughout the day. The other day I had 5 bars in LTE and tried to make a phone call. When I did, the phone dropped to 1 bar and I got multiple 'call failed' messages trying to complete the call. After I hung up, the bars would go back up to 5 in LTE. A couple of days ago, I had full bars in LTE but could not do anything with data. I had to shut my phone off and restart to get the data to work again. Is anyone else having this or a similar issue?

There is another thread on the "Apple 6 Verizon Dropped Calls" matter. I have had this crappy iPhone 6 since October and could not return it because we missed the 14 day period. I feel this was due in part to Verizon taking forever to troubleshoot the phone. There are two of us with the 6, 64G, same plan, same house and we both get inconsistent reception. Where I used to be able to send txts via my iPhone 4S I no longer can do so with the iPhone 6, ditto w/ the other person who just switched to the 6. Yes, I have LTE turned to data only. Yes, I have done a hard and network reset. Several times. No, my location hasn't changed. Yes, the threads on the iPhone 6 cellular issue continues to grow. Just Google, "iPhone 6 poor cellular reception" or the above, "iPhone 6 dropped calls". It doesn't seem limited to Verizon, but I am holding them accountable since they're charging me monthly for a service I'm not getting. And, the fight with them continues. So, they say all my cellular coverage issues are because my "area" is marginal. I highly doubt that - I am in a metropolitan area which definitely didn't have problems when using the 4S for 3 years. Below is the latest response from Verizon regarding the dropped calls and poor cellular coverage issues with the iPHone 6. Notice the single bar - that location was always 3 bars at a minimum before moving to the 6. So, the next step is to visit the Apple Store "Genius Bar" where I am sure I will wait (even with an appt) and leave with no results. But, that's on my misfortune for making the move to the 6 after its initial release. bah!

I purchased an iPhone 6 64GB gold Verizon with iOS 8.1.1 from an Apple Store in the SF Bay Area on December 1. Same problems all have reported in this thread. Went through full troubleshooting with Apple over the course of three calls and several hours (LTE off, data-only, data & voice, airplane mode, reset network settings, restored iphone, removed and replaced SIMM card, turned on and off roaming, and also confirmed with Verizon that there was strong signal coverage and no reported network issues in areas where I used to have great reception with iPhone 5 but now show poor reception, calls drop, and signal strength is constantly toggling between 1x, 3G, LTE without me moving an inch.

Because I'm within 14 days of the original purchase, Apple is replacing my phone on Sunday at my local Apple store... but from reading this thread it sounds as if folks have concluded it's a software issue and not a problem with the antenna. Sigh..... will be paying attention to this thread in hopes there is an acknowledgement of root cause and a software fix soon.

That's what I'm worried about, that it's a hardware problem and they won't fix it. Hopefully if enough of us call VZ and complain then they'll pressure Apple to fix it. But clearly it's a bigger issue. Not sure why it hasn't gotten any media attention. We know Apple responds to that. I've filed a bug report with Apple as a developer. I haven't bothered calling Verizon yet. I think I also have heard that iOS 8.2 beta hasn't improved the issue at all.

I think replacing my phone and not restoring from iCloud backup helped a bit. When i went to the Apple store, they replaced my phone for free and told me to manually bring over anything I was interested in keeping and to not restore my phone from a backup as it could have malware of some sort. This has vastly improved the speed of my phone. I have a new SIM card that I have yet to insert, but I think I will this week because the spotty service and intermittent data are still occasionally occurring. I think everyone should try 1) new phone 2) no cloud backup restore 3) new SIM card 4) contact Verizon to complain on record. We are in the minority. Most people I talk to have their phones working fine, so just do what you can to get it fixed.

I picked up a replacement iPhone 6 / 64GB / Verizon from the Apple Store on Sunday with low expectations that it would address the signal strength problem I'd been having with my six-day-old original phone.

Surprise, surprise....same problem - possibly even worse.

What is very noticeably worse is what happens when auto-switching from wireless to cellular as I leave my house. On my previous iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 (both Verizon), when I would leave my house and head North, I would have to reach the second major intersection before I could pick up a strong enough signal to place a call. Yesterday, on two occasions, I had to drive an additional mile past that point and then power-cycle the phone to get it 'unstuck' from Verizon 1x with one bubble/bar, to be able to place a call.

I'm upgrading to 8.1.2 right now but it sounds like this merely addresses some ringtone issues.

Bummed.

Check your Verizon settings. Do you have LTE set for data only, or for data and voice. It seems that Verizon and AT&T both are still in the beta versions of their VoLTE, and are testing it in several major markets across the US. It is not working correctly, so they are recommending that you turn off the phone portion of LTE. Go into your cellular settings and set LTE for data only and that should help. Both are rather tight lipped about this, the only reason a few of us here know about it is because some users have reported information that received and the fact that devices are working again.

I Am having the same issue and have consistently dropped calls and had 1x signal in the exact location that I always had LTE coverage since upgrading from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 6 in 64gb. I work for Verizon Wireless and have looked into all of the troubleshooting that is available to us as employees with no success. If this issue was caused by the Verizon Wireless network there would be something done about it or information released to relay to our customers but at this time neither seem to be the case. We are given a few options in these situations; 1. Replace the device, 2. Submit a ticket about a network issue or 3. Refer you to Apple. Obviously none of these options will do anything to fix the issue and being someone that has the same thing going on I understand how aggravating it is and want something done about it! I do believe that Apple has the right intentions but this issue is being ignored by Apple and we are addressing fixes for ringtones before anything else! I mean come on who buys ringtones anymore?! Being an iPhone user for years and my training from Verizon I know this isn't an overall network issue (because it would be happening with other phone manufacturers as well) but an issue with either the hardware or the software on these devices. I continue to hold onto the hope that one of the software updates will fix the issue for us! I will be calling into Apple soon and requesting to speak to a tech support specialist that can file a legitimate ticket with their company. I'm not sure if this will happen or help but I am going to do everything that I can to make my phone work cause I don't want to have to go back to my 5. I hope other people will do the same so our point is made and we aren't paying crazy amounts of money for sub-par devices/software.
