Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,


please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart


TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

SSimilar issues using wifi as far as not connecting to servers. Crashing apps this update is an unmitigated disaster and another example of poor quality control which was something they used to excel at

What you need to do is 'soffware extraction' problem was caused by rogue software/firmware that was present when ios8 was introduced to the device. You'll need to start your iPad as new once this is done to prevent putting back old softwares by restoring. Best way to do this is to take it to Apple stire. Make sure they hook it up to one of their systems while they do this. This is different than 'reset' or 'restore' Good luck!

GLad the solution worked on your ipad2 also.


To the rest of iPad2 community, try this before condemming futher:


1. Open a few webpages in Safari (i had 6 tabs openned)

2. Go to the last tab on the right & "pinch the page" with 2 fingers (the screen will reduce into 6 mini tabs).

3. Select any one of the mini tabs.

When Safari resumed normal size after Step 3, my iPad regained 80% of it's original zappiness, like magic. All other apps can scroll smoother & I'm a happy iPad (iOS8) owner again

I posted a very similar posting last night as well as all of the replies to your post and was told by another person on this forum :

Next thing I know, I was sent an email stating my post was removed because it was not constructive, and was told this forum is for questions only. I am glad your post has not been deleted, it's good to know others are having these issues and sometimes we just want to make a statement about how unhappy we are and may not want to ask the same questions that have already been asked by several others with no solutions.

Or you make an appointment at your local apple store and have them look at it. One way to get a problem fixed is to make it someone else's problem. Venting here....I totally understand how it feels to commiserate with fellow users, but it doesn't 'count'....Apple doesn't read or log what happens here (beyond the hosts policing posts). To have issues 'count' they need to be seen by Apple. One way to have them be seen is to send the feedback. Another way is to make it their 'problem' by having their techs look at your devices, log the issues, prove what they can/can't do.


I'm reminded of when I was in our legislature and they were talking about an anti-texting bill....despite tons of anecdotal proof they would not respond until they had studies and 'proof' that driving and texting isn't a wise thing to do. Once they had those numbers and proof, then something could be done.


Potentially, if there is proof of issues, beyond user posts, it may assist with finding the problems and maybe finding a way out of them.



Users need to make their problems apple's problems by sending the feedback, having their devices diagnosed etc.



Commiserating here may feel good and may help with your frustrations, but it's not going to help much with a solution.

I'Ve also sent feedback directly to Apple via the 'feedback' mechanism - we all should, to ensure our concerns are formally heard (blogs are monitored but less impactful). Simply stated, 8.0 and 8.02 crushes the performance of my iPad (I bought the iPhone6 - 8.x on this platform is not so bad, but performance feels slower than 7.x on the 5s). All apps seem affected in some way or another. I've of course done the obvious moves to tryomto improve ipad performance - with no impact. Apple should warn users; should allow reversal to 7.x until a fix is in place; and should fix it. Suggestions about removing all apps, wiping and restarting, are like changing the window washer fluid in your car then having to swap engines so everything works - ludicrous.

I'll be sending feedback to Apple soon too, I think. ios 8 is just sad, and I'm sorry to report 8.0.2 is not much better. So far it's made my keyboard a little bit faster and more responsive, but many of my apps still crash like crazy and my camera roll and photo albums are slower than ever! 8.0.2 is a minor improvement at best, definitely not great. Anybody else with iPad 2 having problems with their photos? Mine's having all kinds of problems. Can barely function anymore. 😟

I'm having all of the problems mentioned by posters here too. What makes me really angry is Apple's lack of comment on the problems being experienced by people who don't have Apple's latest "shiny thing". All of the focus has been on the iPhone 6; no mention of the chaos iOs 8 has caused for those of us who had no reason to buy their latest offering. My iPad2 has been close to being flung of my 16th floor balcony, with my iPhone 4s only marginally better. If Apple is going to force me to upgrade because they don't recognise or don't care about the lack of usability of their software 'upgrade' for those of us with older devices, then guess what? My next tablet will be a Surface Pro 3 and my next phone will be something from HTC or Samsung. Apple's arrogance will be their downfall and apart from the physical quality of their devices they have very little advantage in terms of innovation these days. Apple watch? Puleeese. If you have Apple shares, sell them now because this company is showing all the signs of a business in decline.

I can only reinforce the comments made by others. My ipad mini (which I have had for ~ 18 months) is slower and less responsive following the upgrade to IOS8. Things which worked perfectly well previously - such as links - are now either slow or don't work at all and web pages are now very slow to load. I can understand that things like this happens when there are major upgrades but it would be pretty ludicrous were Apple not to fix these problems quickly. So much for the claim that IOS8 would fix some stability problems. I am sure that the new features will seem good, in time, but for now i can't get past the fact that my ipad is performing less well than it did previously.

So Apple this is my only and last update. The money you fleece for apps and hardware yet will all the billions you make you cant write a programme that works on IPad2 or suggest due to avoid your inability to not mess up my tablets by not downloading your useless update. So heres my solution. I have sold three iPads and two iPhones - total garbage. Samsung have £3000 of my hard earned cash - I will never by another Apple product. Bet if I had not paid for something it will have been fixed by now.

So disappointed in Apple's response to Ipad 2 cellular loss capability problems. When speaking with "My Apple" I was told the cellular antenna "burned out" and I would need to replace. Whoa? Support or Upsale job? Antenna burning out at the same time as the update? Really? Keeping Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, Droid, for sure and will take a long look at their tablets. Really liked my IPad 2....So sad Apple has no customer service besides selling you a new one.

Apple is too big at this point. Just like Microsoft before them, they get so big they start making errors.


Apple needs to give users the option to run whatever OS they want, just like on computers. Forcing users to upgrade to an OS that slows down their devices, with no way to reverse the error, is unconscionable. I don't know why the public allows a company to behave this way and I can't understand why a class action lawsuit has not already been filed. It's okay to release software too early, but it's not okay to force people to use it without an option to go back.


My iPad mini is buggy and sluggish after upgrading to iOS 8.


Remember when Apple products just worked? That's the whole reason I switched to Apple from Microsoft in 2004. Apple is the new Microsoft. Everything they release now is buggy. I completely skipped Mavericks because it was too buggy on one of my machines. I won't be upgrading to Yosemite until a few updates have been released. I just don't want the headache.
