My itunes won't open

Ok, I've read all the forums talking about itunes not opening for them and have tried all of them and mine still will not open. I don't have an error message that comes up. I double click on my itunes icon, the hour glass comes up, and nothing. I've downloaded itunes twice now and even quicktime to my hard drive and still nothing.

Someone please help! I've called apple 3 times and have been on hold for 30+ minutes each time. i don't have time nor the minutes to stay on the phone for that long.

I tried this too. But when I clicked on the link, there was nothing in that folder or file. I then clicked on itunes under other places and it brought me to a folder called SC Info. I deleted it and tried opening itunes and it looked like it was working, reinstalling the folder but then nothing. Still no itunes...

oh lordy, jcwntr00 ... i think you might have malware.

i'm pretty certain about this one:

WinFavorites

... and i'm pretty worried about a bunch of the other names in there.

it looks like you're running AVG as your antivirus? try downloading fresh definitions and scanning vigorously for malware. if that shows up nothing, check to see if GriSoft offer "online" scans. they can sometimes pick up infections even when the security software on the PC has been disabled.

if GriSoft don't do online scans, try running the online scan at Symantec to see if that shows up any infections. (apologies in advance ... i've done the Symantec online scan myself, and it takes an eternity to complete.) here's a link through to the Symantec Scan:

Symantec Security Check

keep us posted on what turns up.

I do have ad ware...is that the same thing? I've scanned it twice and removed the parasites from that. Then I downloaded and bought an antispyware and cleaned my computer for what it found. Unfortunately, itunes still isn't opening.

There's no free scan from grisoft and the symantec one wouldn't download. Every time I tried to download activex, it would do nothing.

I am not able to launch iTunes 7.0. I keep getting an error message

“ The folder “iTunes” cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the “My Music” folder”

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but doesn’t seem to help. I also disabled the antivirus during installation. Pl help!

Hi, everyone.

I'm having the exact same problem as jcwntr00 here: iTunes won't open no matter how many times I click, I don't have Norton, deleting the folder won't work, no dice with doing a selective start up, and Symantec and Ad-Aware scans came up clean.

In addition, unlike Ph0EnyX37, iTunes.exe isn't running in my processes. Plugging in my iPod that should automatically update won't open iTunes like it usually does or installing the latest version of iTunes didn't work, either.

I find it a little suspicious that my iTunes trouble started on the same day Windows starts (wrongly, mind you) nagging me about not having a genuine copy of Windows. Or maybe I just have really bad luck like that.

yeah, malware is sort of a "catchall" term for adware, viruses, worms, etc. (the distinctions between the classes are a bit blurry.)

i don't like the way that the ActiveX control isn't downloading from Symantec. your security software may well have been compromised here, and i think we probably need to make sure that everything has been cleaned off. it might be a good idea here to try visiting a reputable malware removal forum where a specialist helper can have a look at at a HijackThis log from your PC. (i'm not trying to get rid of you here ... i just think we should try to get some specialist opinions.)

there's a list of several good malware removal help forums at the end of this document:

b noir, if I could ask for your assistance, I would be very grateful. I am having a very hard time getting itunes 7.0.1 to open. It will no longer open when clicking on the desktop icon and will only open after connecting my iPod. Even then it takes more than 3 minutes before my library pops up. I checked out the advice you gave another person regarding the use of MSCONFIG to troubleshoot for possible conflicts. A process in the steps is getting me a little nervous, as I am no computer genius. In step 11 of the msconfig procedure, it says to restart and log in to windows. When my computer boots up (Windows XP), all I have to do is chose either my icon or my wife's and my programs load. Is this saying that I need a password? Is that what it means by logging in? If I had a password I certainly do not know it anmore and I fear being totally locked out of my own computer. Second, is it possible that a conflict does exist as once iTunes is open my program freezes any time I attempt to go to ANY video section (music videos, TV Shows, Movies). I can play any and all video currently in my library, but I cannt go brwse or shop through the sections. Even though my computer is authorized, each and every time I attempt to go to TV shows I get a message saying that I cannot browse these album covers. Any advice?

nope, you're fine. (you're actually like me ... i set up a test account on belladonna, and i see that screen when i restart too.) if you don't have a password for your account, all you need to do at that stage to log in is click on your user account's icon.

do you have a different thread where you're troubleshooting this, Slats? if so, could you reply with a link to it? (i'd like to have a look at your symptoms in more detail, and this thread is getting too complex for me to manage ... i keep missing folks' replies in it. so if we could continue discussions in your other thread, that would be ideal.)

I have instead itunes 7.0 more then once on my computer. Every time I Click on the icon itunes will not come up. I have tried to install itunes more then once every time I have done this my computer says "itunes has been successfully installed." I have already tried all of the steps I have found on Apple to help me.
