Ok.....

The Drama continues....

So I go to Verizon and explain to them my issue with the phone not being able to hear any calls.....and the reps there tried it out right in front of me to validate my story.....Sooo.....on 3 separate attempts the phone does not work at all just like I described to them......They make a call to their own store with my phone....and another rep tries to answer the call and cannot here a thing.......So another rep steps in....does the same thing but to another cell phone.....Bang!....same thing happens.....3rd rep steps in looks a little befuddled.......tries his jedi mind-tricks on it.....and yes...once again....the iPhone 6 which I've only had 10 days......Does not hear a darn thing !!

I failed to see that in the Keynote speech that the new iPhone 6 that it only can be used for texts, surfing the net, and taking photos......What the heck happened to the PHONE part.....in iPhone???

So....Verizon labeled my phone as DOA in their system and has ordered me another one.....which is backordered until mid-October.......at best

SO.......let me sum this up for you.....I have paid for a new IPHONE 6 for which I am not able to use for roughly an entire month !!!

But hey.......it makes a great coaster......which I used at a great Chinese restaurant yesterday when some friends asked me how I like the new iPhone 6 .....

Now onto the next adventure.........wondering when this thing is going to arrive !

To be continued..........again......still

Hi, I'm new to this site but have been a loyal apple customer (so far!) for years. I'm shocked to see other people are having this same issue with their new iPhone. Within hours of receiving my new iPhone 6, I started having problems with the speaker too. The person on the other end can only hear me if I use the speaker phone, and even that doesn't always work. I have spoken with tech specialists from Apple and Verizon on multiple occasions. Verizon wants to keep turfing the issue from one department to another. Apparently customer service and IT don't "get along", and when you call for support, you never know who you're going to get. After at least 6 phone calls (each lasting over an hour between hold times, transfers, turfs, etc), I finally got a very helpful person who, along with all the other reps, agreed that the phone was basically "DOA". She said she would send a "Certified Like New iPhone" replacement to me right away. I didn't qualify for a "new" phone because I was out of the 14 day purchase time frame. I explained that I had issues since day 1 which she verified by looking through all the notes but couldn't do anything else. After refusing to accept a refurbished phone to replace the one I purchased only 3 weeks ago for hundreds of dollars, she very kindly contacted apple who agreed to send me a brand new one. She informed me it had to be delivered to verizon first, then to me. I got it today as promised and wouldn't you know, it is a refurbished iPhone 6. I called verizon right away, was transferred twice then told I would get a call back ASAP. Still waiting!!! Any updates from anyone else having this issue?

Thanks for the advice but it didn't work....

Its really weird......Not only that I cannot hear anything.....but now my wi-fi has decided to not work now. The icon on my control panel is black and won't even allow me toggle it on/off.......

Verizon told me today my new one is suppose to be in by the 23rd........which ticks me off since I'm hearing more people were able to get theirs exactly the same specs right now where as I have to wait to get mine......just doesn't seem fair since I pre-ordered mine and now Im pushed to the back of the line.

I have to use my bluetooth handsfree device in my car to make calls.........I hadn't made a call from the iPhone 6 in I don't know how long...

Not really appreciating this treatment.

I tried that too, out of desperation. No luck. Unfortunately, my wifi doesn't work, nor does the blue tooth. The Apple supervisor promised to call me back yesterday, still haven't heard from her. Really disappointing since the Apple support people are usually so reliable. I pre-ordered mine too. My guess is that the others who are getting replacements so quickly are actually getting the certified like new devices, like the one Verizon sent me. I already notified them that I will be returning that device. Verizon told me it's "almost new", the person who purchased it only had it 24 hours and returned it because he didn't like it......wonder why!!!

Ditto....I'm a doctor and have had to find land lines to return patient calls. After 4 weeks of dealing with this, a "senior apple supervisor" literally just instructed me to go the nearest Apple store (an hour away), where they have reserved a "new" phone for me. (No, not "out of the box new" however they "promise" it has never been used.) ...We'll see. At this point, I'll try anything. You are correct though. Inexcusable, these phones are not cheap. The appropriate thing to do would be to exchange my phone with a brand new, still in the pretty white box iPhone 6!! Good luck.

Update: Went to Ann Arbor Saturday. Phone was replaced. Worked while in the store and later while still in the mall up there. Got a call from my mother in Phoenix Sunday morning.... she couldn't hear a word I way saying. She called back, same thing. Third time, call got completely dropped. Did a soft reset, then a hard reset, no luck. Restored the phone to factory settings, no better 😟 Today, unable to make any calls out. Went to Verizon, after 90 minutes, finally ended up returning the 4 day old replacement phone and going back to an old iPhone 4. Was not easy though.... they kept telling me no one has ever had an issue with the iPhone 6. I politely informed them otherwise. Not until they attempted to make a call using my phone did they believe me. I will remain a loyal Apple fan though. This I am sure was just unlucky. In a few months, after all the kinks have been worked out, I'll likely try another iPhone 6. Glad to hear that others with this problem are much happier after with their replacement phones!!

Thanks smjdel, this advice worked perfectly!

When I changed volume it indicated the headphone volume was adjusting even though they weren't plugged in. SO I figured I had something jammed in there. Maybe a liquid or something. I didn't get greedy and try jamming in the headphones jack, as you warned. Went to the hardware store, bought compressed air, and viola! Problem solved. Perfect advice.

Here's the problem for me and how I fixed it.

For me, this seems to only happen when I have a case on the phone.

i just had the same problem for the second time, and again I fixed it.

Last year I had an Iphone 5S and I had a case on it. The earpiece just stopped working, but the speakerphone works fine.

This year I have the Iphone 6, with a case, and the speaker phone works fine.

Do you have a case no your phone as the problem occures?

I took off the case, went and got the original ear bugs, then plugged them into the phone, and then unplugged them. I did this a few times, and it started working again. If you have a case or not, again, plug apple earbugs in, then remove them, keep doing this until it works. Its good to also blow in the hole first.

The problem is your phone thinks you have headphones in.

Ear speaker and audio headphones stopped working on new iphone 6 (last remarkable thing I did was turn on/off the Do not disturb setting?). Reset, volume changes and blowing out headphone socket had no effect. Music only played through i.phone loudspeakers, not headphones. I plugged in headphones repeatedly and nothing changed. Finally plugged in apple headset and played music ok through them, then ear speaker etc started working as normal.
