After I installed iOS 8 on the iPhones 5 of my and my wife's the camera on the lock screen isn't working properly anymore. When I swipe up, the camera starts but the screen turns black within less then a second.
On the iPad 2 and the iPad Air (both upgraded to iOS 8) I don't have this problem. It seems to be iPhone 5 specific.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have this same issue as well after updating to ios8. Does the same thing with either the camera or the calculator. Starts for about a second and then the screen goes black. This is on a 5s

I just did the 8.0.2 update last night and it did nothing to fix this. camera and calculator still go to a black screen after a second from the control center on the lock screen.
I've got this with an iPad Air. Just upgraded to IOS 8.0.2 and the camera is just black. The button to switch camera doesn't work. The button to take a photo doesn't work. The button to swipe up and down to chose photo/video/time lapse does work but nothing changes.
I have the same problema. I have iPhone 5.
Besides the black screen, if i press the shutter (volume + key) it takes the foto.

For my iPhone 5 this problem seems to be solved with the upgrade to iOS 8.0.2.
I have iOS 8.0.2 and still have this problem. Did you reset iphone to factory defaults? It's the next thing i'll do.
No I did not reset the iPhones to factory defaults.
Has anyone found a fix for this? Is it a hardware issue? If so, do i need to return under warranty? This is really bugging me now as it does not seem to be a widespread issue so noone seems to be taking notice.
Today, I restored to factory settings, and the problem persists. 😠
I do not know what else can i do to fix this problem... maybe apple knows...
I have the same problem on iPhone 5s with IOS 8.02!!
Today, i change the time that iphone asks for pin, from immediate to 5 minute, and it works fine for most of the time. But then the problem appened again.
I removed the passcode and now the camera works again in the lock screen. It's a workaround, not a solution. Hope this gets fixed soon!
Having the same problem. I'm on an iPhone 5 and I have updated to 8.0.2. When I go to apps directly from the lock screen (timer, calculator, camera) it opens up then immediately turns into a black screen. It appears that removing my passcode fixes this bug, but I can't have an unsecured phone. Please help Apple!
Hey i had The same problem and now i find the f*cking solution!!!!!!! You have to go to Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings it works to me hope i could help you 🙂
