I haven't seen any setting for automatically loading the desktop version of a web page. There is only the manual way of doing it (if needed) bby tapping in the URL address line, and then pulling down the favorites window (which pops up) to reveal the choice "Request Desktop Site".
Perhaps you can suggest the addition of an automatic choice (setting) ...
Well thanks.
I forgot about this solution.
But although Safari is not perfect, and the point that I am asking here is one of them, I really much prefer using Safari then all the other browsers because it is much more intuitive than any other browser.
But thanks because your answer could be useful for any other user than me who is completely and 100 % addicted to everything which is Apple (although it has become, by far, less perfect then in 1984 but it has become cool and much more fun than in 1984.)
Thanks to your answer, I actually understood how this works.
Sadly, it is not automatic.
And in addition, when I search something and one of the proposition is a Wikipedia link, I first have to select and load the Wikipedia page and then tap the address line for me to be able to pull down and the select the desktop site.
I would have liked to be able to select the Wikipedia page and directly have the desktop version of this Wikipedia page.
But, as you say, this is not possible.
Your best bet is an alternate browser that allows you to set the browser Id to something non-mobile. iCab Mobile does this (and is a petty good app to boot), but I'm sure there are other browsers with this functionality in the app store.
Sorry for the errors of " then " instead of " than " in my previous answer but Siri sometimes doesn't understand what we mean.
Understood, but there are a number of things that iCab Mobile can handle better than Safari. I actually use both.
