Double/Echo Email Notification Sound (iPhone 6 Plus and iOS 8)

I have iCloud push email on my iPhone 6 Plus. When I get an email notification the sound seems to 'echo'. Another way to explain how it sounds is it sounds just like when I get a notification and my iPad and iPhone are right next to each other and both notifications come in at once. It did not do it with any of my past iPhones.

Here are the steps I've taken to isolate the problem.

  1. Going into mail.app in Notifications and turning off "allow notifications" will turn off all visual notifications, but still allow audio notifications (no doubling of audio notifications)
  2. Turning off just "notification sound" by choosing "none" for each account will result in no audio notifications at all.
  3. Doing a "Reset All Settings" does not correct the problem.

All other notification sounds are fine, it's just when I get an email.

Does anyone have the same issue? Any solution?

I have this echo issue on my iPhone 6 64GB. The only two mail I use are 2 yahoo accounts. Also, when I hit the power button to turn the screen off, there is also an echo. If I hold the phone up to your ear while doing this, I can hear an electronic sound fading out. It's weird and I don't think it's normal. My iPhone has also crashed once and has cosmetic flaws. I'm thinking about swapping it out since it's still < 30 days old.

Setting a custom vibration did not help me.

I really, really hope 8.2 fixes this annoying issue. I am tired of this "echo" vibration I have because it is way too similar to the vibration I have for texts. And I can't wait for notifications to start properly clearing from the lock screen when emails have been read on my MacBook Pro. Should've stayed with iOS 7 for a few extra months, apparently.

And FWIW, this started when I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8. A full factory reset without a restore didn't fix. And getting the iPhone 6 did not fix it. Such crap.

Chevyguy,

Thanks for taking the time to figure out, test and post your workaround. I found it intriguing so had to try it after several similar failed attempts myself. Unfortunately, for me, when I turn off vibrate in the global sounds setting (Settings>Sounds>Vibrate on Ring - off), then I do not ever get a vibration notification for incoming emails despite having chosen a vibration pattern in Notifications (Settings>Notifications>Mail>Gmail>Notification Sounds>Vibration>Quick). You didn't specifically mention that you still get a vibration so I'm wondering if I misunderstood your post.

Hopefully new IOS will be released soon and workarounds will no longer be needed.
