[Unsolved] iOS 8 Exchange Emails read on other devices do not clear out from Lock Screen

Creating this thread again since the last one got marked 'solved' automatically although no solution was found.

My Google Apps (Exchange) emails on the lock screen are not disappearing when I read them on other devices (eg. my iPad or Mac). On iOS 7 this used to work very consistently for me, that is, when I received an email on 3 devices and read it on one of them, the email would instantly be marked as read on the other devices and the notifications would be cleared out.

Furthermore, if I slide the notification of a read email on the lock screen and delete it, it has no effect on the server. So this is certainly a bug.

PS: Also tried Push email notifications with iCloud mail, same problem. For iCloud, even the icon badge count is not updated.

Nope, I use (paid version) of Google Apps. Exchange itself is working fine, it's just the lock screen notifications that are not cleared when email is read on another device. I'm aware of what you're referring to, this is not it.

Except for Google Apps I also have my company's Exchange account which is exhibiting the same problems with notifications, so it's not a Google-only problem.

Nope. Mine is an iPhone 5 that has Exchange, Gmail and Hotmail accounts on it. All three email clients worked perfectly on iOS 6 and 7 in terms of appearing on and disappearing from the lock screen, but my experience with iOS 8 has been horrible. As to this issue in particular, not only are items not disappearing from the lock screen, but even when I changed the setting to show only 1 message on the lock screen (just so I would know if I have any new email), every email I get nevertheless still appears on the lock screen ?!?! I agree with t87 that iOS has been a regression and, to my mind, a big one at that (not just limited to this issue). The mantra of "it just works" does not hold true, at least in my experience.

That is interesting about your company's exchange account, as it has not behaved in that manner for my work Exchange account. If the mail showed up on the phone and then I read on my desktop, when I open the phone it updates right way, unless I got another email in the meantime and it will update the screen when that one arrives, removing the old notices.

I don't understand why you are experiencing this. I've not had any issues with my 5S on iOS8.0.2. I've not had time to update the phone to iOS8.1, but will later tonight. I can understand why you feel it is a "regression", but I can say that I've not experienced any issues. Well, I take that back, the 4 keyboard shortcuts that I had disappeared when I upgraded to iOS8, but I just replaced them and they are back and working.

Agreed - it doesn't work for me either...read messages on my Exchange account stay on my lock screen as if they are unread. If I unlock my phone and go to my inbox though, it shows the messages are read though. I can read an Outlook email and it immediately leaves my home screen. This behavior has only occurred since updating to iOS8.

I don't know why I am experiencing this, either. But it is frustrating. I also lost all my shortcuts when the Apple Genius Bar person did a "reset all settings" (on 8.0.2) in an effort to fix this and the other issues I've been having.

I regret the day I "upgraded" from 7.1.2, and wish Apple would let us revert. I can't see living with these kinds of bugs for another 2 years.

That has been my exact experience as well. And I will add that once I have gone into my iPhone (or iPad) inbox, the messages disappear from the lock screen.

PS, I tried a workaround of having messages appear only in the notification area (as opposed to lock screen); no messages would appear, even though I set up the notification area to hold 10 emails. So, it appears my choice with Apple is to either have no lock screen or notification area alerts or to have a bunch of old emails appear on the lock screen.

Exactly. With the old, uncleared email notifications present if I draw down the Notification Center, the emails that have been read on other devices clear out. This leads me to believe that the problem is isolated specifically to the Lock Screen only. For someone that receives over 30 emails a day on the go, this bug or its closest workaround is crazy annoying.

Right now I've resorted to using the Gmail app for my personal Exchange account. I hate it but am left with no choice.
