[Unsolved] iOS 8 Exchange Emails read on other devices do not clear out from Lock Screen

Creating this thread again since the last one got marked 'solved' automatically although no solution was found.

My Google Apps (Exchange) emails on the lock screen are not disappearing when I read them on other devices (eg. my iPad or Mac). On iOS 7 this used to work very consistently for me, that is, when I received an email on 3 devices and read it on one of them, the email would instantly be marked as read on the other devices and the notifications would be cleared out.

Furthermore, if I slide the notification of a read email on the lock screen and delete it, it has no effect on the server. So this is certainly a bug.

PS: Also tried Push email notifications with iCloud mail, same problem. For iCloud, even the icon badge count is not updated.

Okay, I see. Would I inconvenience you much to request you to turn on iCloud Mail from Settings → iCloud? You will get to choose your own @icloud.com email address. It takes no more than a few seconds. You can always deactivate it after the test.

Apple would like to know if this issue has been rectified with iCloud email addresses which uses native (true) Push. I speak for many others when I say I'd love to have this case resolved within the 8.2 release! 🙂

Okay, I've tried it with an iCloud email account, and the behavior seems to be exactly the same as what I experienced with my Exchange account. The lock screen notifications seem to update as soon as the Mail app updates. Sometimes this is right away, and sometimes it takes a bit. Marking an email as read or deleting it directly from the lock screen syncs across other devices.

In general, it seems like push email is always real-time when new messages arrive. But deleting messages or marking them as read doesn't seem to necessarily trigger a real-time push the other way every time. If it doesn't update a deleted message right away, it always will update it the next time a push event (like a new email) occurs. This behavior seems fairly universal and not just exhibited on Apple devices. But the good news is that the notifications on the lock screen now seem to be directly linked to the status in the Mail app, so we won't have messages erroneously staying in the lock screen until the phone is unlocked. From what I remember, this is the exact same behavior that we had with iOS 7 (minus the interactive options on the lock screen).

I'm surprised that Apple is asking you if this is fixed in 8.2. They certainly have access to iCloud and iOS 8.2! 🙂

Okay excellent, thanks for the info! Yes you're right, this is how it was in iOS 7 too and is the expected behavior.

As for Apple, I've been touch with a Senior Advisor at Cupertino who has been relaying my observations to the engineering team directly. (I'm a so-called Apple Certified Technician myself 🙂). As far as I understood, they are more interested in end-user case results than 'lab test' results, hence the feedback!

Glad to hear that iOS 8.2 supposedly fixes this lockscreen bug! It's been driving me nuts since "upgrading" to iOS 8.

This issue doesn't just exist for Exchange accounts, it also exists for IMAP accounts. In IMAP, the Mail app and Notification Center appear to update fine for both new and read mail (as per the Fetch schedule), but the lockscreen is only updating for new messages, not for messages that were read or moved on other devices. In other words, the lockscreen doesn't reflect the same information as the Notification Center, so it's almost definitely just a lockscreen bug.

Also, for those asking about iCloud accounts, you should know that iCloud only pushes new mail. In iOS, it has never pushed the updated status of mail read, moved or flagged on other devices. http://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT203545 This has got to be one of the most annoying and silly issues with iCloud mail. For a company that brags about the seamless syncing and integration between devices, Apple sure seems stubborn about not changing this behaviour. It is the single biggest reason why I don't make iCloud my primary email account.

That's correct. The bug seems to be fixed for Exchange, IMAP, and iCloud. Since the status was updating properly in the Mail app, it's probably just the linking between the Mail app and the lock screen that was broken. Now that that link seems to be fixed, I would think anything that's correctly handled in the Mail app should also be handled correctly in the lock screen. That's been my experience so far.
