iOS 8.0.2 wifi issue

After updating with 8.0.2 last night, everything is fine with my iPhone 6 plus. Woke up this morning and I noticed that wifi is very slow. My other idevices are working fine. I reset my router and still the same... reset network connection and still the same... after booting up, it won't even recognize any wifi. Finally, I did a hard reset and it fixed my issue. I hope I don't have to do this every morning. Apple, please fix this darn wifi issue!!! You messed up several times already in a week! If you want to keep your customer happy, please make this right! I am losing my trust in you Apple!!!

This is the comment i just got from Apple Support about the wifi issue!!! I am trying to find Apple's MD's email address to send it to him for his comments any help would be appraeciated

"There might be hundred of examples of other users having the same issue you seem to be having. However there were over 10 millions iPhone 6’s sold on opening weekend alone. So if there are only a few hundred users reporting issues with the Wi-Fi that is such a small percentage to have any kind of issue like that."

I'm not sure why it works, but changing my 2.4 GHz channel from "auto" (11) to channel 1 clears things up for our iPads and iPhone 4s. That seemed counter-intuitive, as there are more SSID's listed on or near that channel, but it's now working. All devices, including some Kindle Fires that were "out of range" at 2 feet away from the WAP (Airport Extreme a/b/g/n) are able to connect. Unless there was coincidentally (and suddenly) a hidden network on channel 11, I'm convinced that iOS 8.0.2 is still somehow involved. Now to test the Epson WiFi printer that was taking 'forever' to print anything!

PART TWO: Just found out the Epson XP-800 was not printing from the computer but is now printing from iPads and iPhones using AirPrint on channel 1. Deleting the previous XP-800, then re-adding the printer from the "Nearby printers" list in Printers & Scanners, System Preferences clears that up as well, listing it as an AirPrint printer available to OS X 10.9.5. While everything seems to be now working, I still wonder about iOS 8.0.2's involvement in this.

Well, I guess add me to the list!!!! I've had nothing but trouble since IOS 8 and our 4s phones! Initially slow as molasses and crashed every minute. I think I have them working a little better after tinkering last night... turning everything off...background refresh, turning off the visual tweaks, resetting all settings etc... But now, I come to work and attempt to log on to the city's free wi-fi and nothing! It keeps saying that the network isn't trusted and the certificate is expired. I tried several times then reset the network connections. Well, that killed the cell service "no service". I had to track someone down with a personal hotspot and log on to fix the cell service with the ##UPDATE# trick. Now cell service is restored but the wi-fi still won't connect saying not a trusted network. I've clicked to trust but it won't! Very disappointed with Apple with this update. I've had Macs since the first IIe and Performas and things have been slowly sliding downhill over the last few years.

Just a quick snapshot of my chain of events. I’m currently on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus 64GB here in London, UK. Every time I have spoken to AppleCare and told them that I have gone through all the Wi-Fi troubleshooting methods possible they have asked me to get a brand new retail replacement as I’m within my 14 day return period. I’ve been experiencing the following issues:

  1. Wi-Fi disconnects and switches to 4G (Restart required for temp fix)
  2. Wi-Fi is still active but there is no traffic or activity– often when in sleep mode for long periods of time. (Toggle Wi-Fi on/off for temp fix)
  3. Wi-Fi disconnects and cannot find any networks (restart required for temp fix)
  4. This has been occurring on both iOS 8 and 8.0.2
  5. The issues are the same on both my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks
  6. This is affecting my ip6+ and 5s (5s used to work perfect on ios7 on same networks) – My MBP-R and all other devices run perfectly on my network.

I spoke to AppleCare again yesterday and asked for their advice as its now my fourth iPhone in just under a month. This time they said that apple were fully aware of the Wi-Fi problem and that new repair tickets were not being raised for their engineers as they are already working hard to get this resolved. They also said they could see all the issues raised on the apple discussions boards which they usually don’t admit too! I asked what to do next and the advisor apologised and said this is clearly a software glitch and will be resolved in the next update. I asked for a timescale but unfortunately none was given.

As stated above I have tried all the troubleshooting methods discussed on forums and on tech websites but the only thing that gives me a stable connection without any disconnects (especially on my 6 plus) is turning cellular/mobile data off when I know I’m going to be on Wi-Fi for a sustained period of time (e.g. at home or work). I appreciate this is annoying but it’s the best temp fix until an update comes out.

Hope it helps everyone who is having issues with their devices that have cellular functionality.

Any comments welcome

I bought a brand new router when all the wi-fi issues started. All my devices that are not iOS or haven't been updated to iOS 8 work just fine. Anything that has been updated to iOS 8 is slower than snail snot on wi-fi and yet works just fine if on LTE. So two different routers, and still having the same wifi issue. logic only dictates that it's not an issue with the routers themselves but with iOS 8.

I have had the same issue as well for weeks. Even since iOS 8 originally was released (i am running 8.0.2 now on my 5S). I have chatted and spoken with Apple reps. They are not even aware of it basically and say it is not something widespread (great for them, not great for the few of us with the issue). My Wi-Fi at home specifically is not disconnecting (at least that I have noticed), but it is lagging by almost 5 seconds slower than it used to (mail, apps, web browsing for example). I was told 5 seconds is not really a big deal (yes, it is!!)...So keep sending Apple feedback (link below - i've already sent about 5 messages) and lets hope 8.1 fixes this issue...I've also run speed tests and I am getting the same speed I used to (and what Verizon offers me) so it's not my router config.

FYI, I have tried the following to get my Wi-Fi back to normal:

1) Reset network settings

2) Turned off Wi-Fi Networking (Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services>Wi-Fi Networking)...read this suggestion on another site.

3) Restored iPhone from backup via iTunes

4) Restored iPhone from scratch via iTunes (as a NEW iPhone, so no reminisce of the old one at all)

5) Reset router and confirmed it was running latest firmware

6) Turning off cellular data is not an option, because you can't send a normal text message then and is taking away a major feature of the phone, so that's not helpful.

P.S. My wife is running an iPhone 6 and while on Wi-Fi is constantly having to close and re-open such things as Mail and a browser to get things to load properly. Not ideal at all. She also lost Wi-Fi connection entirely (for how long, we aren't sure...About a week into our bill cycle she was halfway through her 2GB data plan!)...I reset her network settings and it looks like that solved that issue...for now...

P.P.S. My other devices, such as my Macbook, are working normally connected to Wi-Fi, so it looks isolated to iOS 8.

I downloaded the latested update on Oct 23 iOS8.1. This did not fix my wifi issue.

Why release io8 with wifi issues and then not fix them with 8.02 and 8.1. I had enought and my carrier has agreed to return my iphone. I had enough with Apple. I have tried all the suggestions everyone has made and do not need to go though the frustration and headaches over an issue that may or may not get resolved.

When you contact the apple store or call apple care they are alway "unaware of any issues" and send you to look at your wifi router or call your service provider.

This is not the first iphone issue I have had unresolved. I have had enough. If some has a permenant solution I'd love to hear it. But I really do not think Apple cares.
