Q: Why is my cursor jumping around?
THe cursor on my Macbook Pro has suddenly started jumping around even when I am touching nothing. It seems to have started after I installed a free Photoshop trial. I have done a Safe Start but nothing has changed.

I followed your steps, and when I pressed the trackpad on all 4 corners, everything went back to normal. Since then I have cautiously started adding things back in. My wireless trackball mouse works fine. I went back on wifi, and have been on and off the internet and that's fine, too. The program that I had downloaded just before this mess started (Photoshop Creative Cloud) seems to be working fine. The only thing I have not done yet is try to install the update to PSCC, which is what I was trying to do when this all started.
Since the trackpad push seemed to fix things, would you say it's probably OK to try again on the update? Or just leave well enough alone -- PS is working fine.
I've been intending to get this in for at least a good thorough cleaning and checkup, so this will give me more incentive to do that.
As for going to the Apple story, in my dreams! The nearest one is a 6-hour drive, and besides, I don't trust myself; my credit cards would get so overheated they'd melt!
Thank you for your reply and your clear explanations.
