ios 8 app store updates badge icon not resetting

my iphone 6 is showing on the app store badge icon there are 7 updates available. Opening the app and going to updates, they all appear as OPEN.

I cannot get rid of the icon without resorting to disabling it via notifications under settings.

I updated to ios 8.02 and it still appears. Also tried the trick of tapping a TAB 10 times to refresh the app but the update count reappears soon after.

Have tried to discover any other solution but none available. Dont know if this has been reported to Apple as a bug.

I have the same problem on (2) 5S phones and a ipad 2. I sync with iTunes they show as updates when I open the App Store then after a few seconds switch to open. if you close out the App Store App and reopen and hit "Download All" before it switches to open the device will re download the Apps and the badge on the icon will disappear until there are more available updates then the issue repeats unless you download the App update on the phone or ipad. This appears to be a glitch of sorts don't know if Apple is aware or not but it's enough to be annoying.

The issue is with the feature called App Splicing.

Whenever you update an app OTA, the iPhone only downloads specific packages that is relevant to the hardware, for example if you have an app that is universal(app that can run on iPad, iPhone on different screen sizes) OTA update will provide smaller sized file since it's not the whole package however if you update the app over iTunes the whole package is being downloaded thus a bigger file so that whenever you sync your iPad or iPhone, it does not matter what screen size, the same app can be installed because it's a complete app.

App Store tags the same app differently depending on the hardware(screen size) though we see the same version on the App Store. This is the reason why an updated app thru iTunes is not recognised by iOS App Store as an updated app even though when you check iTunes and your iPhone they show the same version of the app.

App Splicing is also the reason why apps that you have downloaded thru your phone no longer transfer on your Mac. Previous versions of iOS allows transfer of app from phone to Mac since iOS downloads the whole package however with App splicing an iPhone 6 app will not work with an iPhone 6 Plus.

It appears your answer worked for several people; however, it did not work for me. I tried your answer, plus several variations of your answer.

However, I did solve this problem a different way, so I wanted to reply and help the community.

What worked for me is this:

  • I opened the App Store and went to the Updates tab.
  • Then, I minimized the App Store by clicking the Home button.
  • Then, I went to Settings and turned on Airplane Mode.
  • Next, I went back to the App Store on the Updates tab. At this time, the apps which "needed" to be updated changed from [OPEN] to [UPDATE].
  • I went back to Settings and turned off Airplane Mode (in order to re-activate my wi-fi connection).
  • Then, I went back to the the App Store on the Updates tab and quickly tapped [UPDATE] on one of the apps.
  • Note: I had to try this a few times because the App Store would change the app statuses from [UPDATE] to [OPEN] very quickly.
  • Once I tapped on an [UPDATE] faster than it could change back to [OPEN], it kept the [UPDATE] status for the remaining apps (for me, there were 9 total)
  • Then, I tapped Update All at the top - which then proceeded to update each app and reduce the notification number each time an app update completed until they were all finished.

I hope the above instructions helps someone else!

Finally this is solved!

Because the new iOS 10 has arrived, before the upgrade I did these steps:

-Update all the apps using iTunes (I have a Mac, I think it can works for windows also)

-Download the iOS 10 directly to the iPhone, but I did not install it yet

-Sync the iPhone with the Mac through iTunes

-All the apps were able to sync except "Pages, Numbers, Keynote" because all of them require iOS 10

-Disconnect the iPhone and proceed to install the iOS 10

-After the installation just perform another sync through iTunes

-Here is the badged finally disappeared

Good luck!

Salvador
