Ios8: safari closes keyboard after first letter entered in google search box. Why? Not helpful apple.

I was aware about the portrait mode, but much prefer to use landscape.

The tip of using the plus button to access favourites was good, although it takes a good 3 seconds before favourites appear.

Maybe I'm just too picky, I just prefered things the way they were before the update.

You,re welcome. I think you, me, and everybody else prefer the old method. I'm hoping time will reveal the value of having to tap the bookmarks icon a second time.

Another option is settings> safari> show Favorites bar> on. Now your Favorites are just above the tab bar.

This worked for me John, I have the ipad2 and the settings came under the heading of 'Google Instant Predictions' but so far so good thanks to you.

Yes, I am. And, it looks as though the entire community is experiencing this frequent nuisance problem.

Should have stuck with MicroSoft software and their products.

Also, why does an update have to overwrite the entire OS? Why can't a simple, less time consuming patch be downloaded?

Instead of using Google I Use 'search.f-secure.com' ( which also uses google) , the keyboard does not dispear after first letter

The Google search fix is saved either as an account setting if you are signed into your Google account, or as a cookie if you are using Google search as a guest. If you clear cookies and not logged into Google you need to reapply the fix.

If your ios8 is slow and buggy, first try clearing all history and data from Safari in settings and reapply the fix. As final resort set up the ipad again from scratch. Ios8 on its own on a clean ipad is not slow or buggy. It may be a bit slower on an ipad2.

I have the same problem since iOS 8, only on iPad not iPhone.

I tried everything I could think of and everything suggested except wiping my iPad and starting again.

Success - I downloaded the Swiftkey keyboard app from the app store and installed it as a new keyboard.

The problem is now gone, and the keyboard is very okay too.
