Unable to pair my macbook on iphone 6 via bluetooth

Unfortunately I can't see my iPhone6 on the airdrop either.

This is simply pathetic. The MacBook Retina is the newest version running 10.10.5 and the iPhone is running 8.4.1

Apple sometimes can't get the simplest things to work. Frustrated!!!!!

I also have this problem! For what purpose?? Isn't that obvious? Without Bluetooth I cannot Airdrop anything between iPhone and MBP.. Bloody infuriating! Especially since I have no problem Bluetoothing between my old Android device and MBP... Grrr!

Did you try setting up and using Airdrop correctly?
You don’t pair them using Bluetooth settings either on the iOS device or the Mac.

Errr.. yes Chris, done that.. doesn't work for me. The devices can see each other, but the iPhone 6 says that the MBP (late 2013 running Yosemite - not upgraded to EC yet.. need to create some space first) is not compatible ⚠ to connect. They seem to connect, but a second later that connection drops out.

You can NOT pair them. What part of that are you not understanding?

Again, you do not need to pair the devices for AirDrop, you just need to have bluetooth turned on. No direct pairing or connection is required.

As Chris said, read the instructions form the link, and follow them. Do not assume things. nowhere does it state you need to pair them.

Is this directed at me, or the original question? If at me, please read my comment, KT; I am NOT trying to pair my iPhone/MBP (where did I say I was?), what part of that are YOU not understanding? The two simply will not connect to airdrop between. Grateful for any sensible assistance, thanks peeps!

There is NO connection to be made. What are you doing? That is dropping a connection?

With bluetooth turned on, just drag whatever it is you want to AirDrop, onto the picture of whoever it is you want to AirDrop it to. Then click send.

At no time is a connection being made that you can see would be dropped. You just drag the item. That's it.

The AirDrop window shows nearby AirDrop users. Drag one or more items to the recipient's image in the window, then click Send.

What happens when you do that?

Then WHY are you posting in this thread at all? The subject of this thread is pairing a phone and a Mac via bluetooth. Your issue has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. If you don't want people thinking that's what you're trying to do, then don't try to hijack this thread with completely unrelated problems.

Chris; I may have misunderstood it seems, if that is the case I apologise for any 'inconvenience'. I suspect the original poster may have been having the same problem as myself, which I shall now try (very calmly) to explain:

With Airdrop selected on my MBP and Airdrop selected as 'everyone' on the iP6 NO ICON appears for the other device on either one. Clearly, both WiFi and Bluetooth are switched on on both devices, however neither one seems able to (let me phrase this carefully) send to the other. Now.. that said, any idea what the problem can be please? (KT need not reply, much thanks ;-) )

Ooh.. forgot to mention; this works fine between iPhone and son's iPad and between MBP and son's iPad.. weird eh?

so i can no longer sync my tunes on my iphone (change playlists etc) without pluging in a cable? isn't that a bit retrograde?

What does syncing have to do with AirDrop & Bluetooth?

It's never been possible to sync music over bluetooth.

The Wireless syncing to iTunes on your computer is done over wifi. It is a completely separate thing from AirDrop, and Bluetooth, does not require pairing the iPhone, and has not to my knowledge changed since it was introduced.

Your issue has really no connection to the topic of this thread.

Perhaps starting your own thread and explaining what issue you are having exactly with as much detail as possible would be a better choice.
