Unable to connect to Exchange mail after IOS 8.0.2 update

Hi,

I donwloaded and updated my iPhone 4S to IOS 8.0.2. Theafter I am unable to connect to Exchange Server and send /receive emails.

I removed the account and tried to create it again. But no luck.

Has anyone faced this?

So, I think I figured it out. It seems to be a bug in IOS 8.0.2. Here goes...

In “Settings”, under “Fetch New Data”, it used to be that the Exchange account defaulted to syncing ONLY the Inbox. Now it defaults to syncing the both the Inbox AND the Sent folders. The bug, as I see it, is in the fact that in addition to this new default - it now WON’T let you turn off syncing the Sent folder. If you go in and uncheck it, and then go out and back in – it’s checked again. Furthermore, regardless of whether you change the setting for this account to be “fetch” (rather than “push”), it still tries to sync the Sent folder. So, if under the account setting you have the “Mail Days to Sync” set to “no Limit”, what’s happening is the phone is busy syncing EVERYTHING from your Sent folder (for me this is over 170k items!!!). So, the phone (and the Exchange server) are so busy dealing with all of these requests that it APPEARS to be locked up when in actuality it’s just taking a really, really, really long time to respond back for your Inbox requests (ie: this is why it loads the headers but takes forever to load the body of the email once you drill down into it). This is why the
download syncing spinning wheel up on top is constantly going and the battery is getting drained so fast.

So until Apple fixes this, here’s my workaround:

Make sure your “Mail Days to Sync” is a small enough time period (ie: a week or two) that your Sent folder sync gets done quickly after setting up your account (ie: maybe a couple minutes). Once the Sent folder sync is done, the spinning wheel up on top should go away and your response time (and push emails) should work fine again. It did for me.

I’m curious to see if anyone else finds this works for them. Please let me know… And good luck!

thank you for your post.

In fact, iPad cannot communicate with exchange. When I'm trying to re-enter de password for exemple, iPad makes a verification, but it's running during 2-3 minutes and find nothing: "verification failed". I follow your workaround, but it doesn't work for me.

I hope iOS 8.1 will solve this problem.

Unfortunately, this does not work for me on my iPhone 6 Plus (8.0.2). On my previous iPhone 5, Exchange worked flawlessly, even after updating to 8.0.2. I just powered up my old iPhone and deleted the Exchange account, rebooted the phone and then re-entered the Exchange account settings. It is now doing the same thing as my new, fairly useless iPhone 6 Plus. It appears that a possible workaround would be to downgrade to iOS 7, install the Exchange and then upgrade to iOS 8, as this is what occurred on my iPhone 5. However, that is way past my knowledge level. I hope that 8.1 fixes this issue.

While I still cannot use Exchange server through the native Mail app on my iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8.0.2, I do have a couple of updates that may serve others well and explain why some have this issue and others do not.

1) A workaround exists for Exchange users who use Outlook on their computers. I tested and can confirm that a mail app called Mail+ For Outlook does work flawlessly. I begrudgingly entered my account settings into Outlook on my MacBook Air. I also dragged and dropped contacts from my Address Book to Outlook. Once Outlook sync' with the server, I enter the account settings into the app. It soon began to populate all folders and contacts. I am able to work from my phone But with this app instead of the native Mail app.

2) I went to Apple online support and entered a chat with two great people who concluded that it would be best that my company's IT contacted Apple's Enterprise department at the following number: 1-866-752-7753. Apple support did suggest that the issue could be that the software used on our Exchange server is not yet configured to interface with iOS 8 yet. Enterprise can help.

Hope these updates help others.

I'm not sure if this is everyone's case, but I had the same problem. Apparently, upgrading to 8.0.2 made the phone appear as a new phone to the Exchange server and I had reached my limit in mobile devices pairings. I received this email:

You have 10 phone partnerships out of the maximum allowed 10 partnerships. After you reach the maximum, you can't create additional partnerships until you delete existing ones from your account. To do so, sign in to Outlook Web App, click Options > Phone > Mobile Phones, and delete any unused partnerships.

I removed a bunch of old pairings from previous devices and everything started working. Seems odd that everyone on this thread would have this issue, but I thought I'd pass it along.
