iPhone 6/iOS 8 Landscape Keyboard Problem

Hello everyone,

I'm writing here as I have encountered some problems with the native iOS keyboard in landscape mode on my brand new iPhone 6. Before getting into the problem description, here is my current configuration:

The Configuration

- iPhone 6 w/ 64GB

- Unlocked, purchased directly from an Apple Store, in Europe/France

- iOS 8.0.2 (12A405)

- Native iOS Keyboard

- No other keyboard app installed or previously installed

- Predictive typing activated

The Problem

Sometimes, when I write messages (SMS and/or iMessages) in landscape mode, the keyboard gets a little "funky" on me. Keys get superimposed on each other, especially the upper most row of keys (the QWERY row) with the predicted words zone. Simply put, graphics get overlaid... I have to switch between portrait and landscape mode in order get the keyboard to be shown normally. Sometimes, the only way out of this is simply closing the app and relaunching it (closing it using double-click on Home button and swiping upwards to free the app memory).

Also, when writing a mail in landscape mode, I only get to see around 3/4 of the text in terms of width. It seems that the text I'm typing gets behind an invisible white panel that covers the right-most quarter of the screen. This invisible white panel only covers the mail body section. All other buttons and fields (Cc/Bcc, Subject, keyboard, Send button, etc.) appear correctly. Notice that this time even the keyboard appears correctly. All graphics appear correctly but the text I'm writing. I have to mention that the text I'm typing does get registered by the OS because if I switch to portrait mode, all the text suddenly appears back and gets readjusted in order to fit the portrait mode. If I switch back to landscape, a part of the text vanishes again (as if hidden by this sort of invisible white panel). Depending on the text I write I can see halfs of letters being hidden...

So I was wondering whether anyone else has encountered this problem at all. Is it due to the iOS 8.0.2 update? Or simply the iOS 8? Or is it maybe the iPhone 6' bigger screen? Beats me... By the way, rebooting the iPhone doesn't change a thing...

Same issue here. Just did the download now I'll hit the alpha key on the screen and it does not register. Only happens in landscape mode. Only tried it on imessage and SMS, did not try email yet.

This is it! I noticed that when I would try to text in landscape mode, the keyboard sometimes became unresponsive. I also noticed that, staying in landscape, if I would remove my left hand from the side of the phone, the keyboard would start working again. I think the phone thought my left hand was my head/ear, and the raise to listen feature disabled the keyboard. Turning off the raise to listen feature got the keyboard working again in landscape, even with lefthand in close for texting. Thank you!

Exact same problem here and on my 4th Iphone from Apple! Always with messaging in landscape mode...usually its that like the last person said when I turn the phone to landscape and try to text the screen goes black and when i hit the home key its in middle of taking a talk message....now on phone #4 I am certain this is an update issue lol not the phone!

There has to be some secret fix besides restarting my phone I would think. Apple support gave me a tip for when my iphone 6 was constantly asking me fo my Apple ID....the lady said to go to I could and turn it off...then to turn it on this time putting everything in Lower case letters...sure enough that fixed the problem. OIS 8 sure is a mess and they didn't fix all the bugs before releasing it. I wish they would hurry up on a fix as my texting in landscape mode is a big issue for me. I really like to text in landscape mode and its really annoying to have the screen turn black on occasion, or needing to finish it in portrait mode...thats the point of landscape mode APPLE so I can have a bigger screen to text! Please fix it!!!! I'm regretting getting an iphone as much as i like it....

Everything is ok on iOS6/7, But not iOS8.

The orientation of the keyboard on iOS 8 is not the same as status bar.

On iOS 8, the status bar is in landscape, but the keyboard will show in portrait. Only if the user turn the device to landscape manually(and the interface orientation is also in landscape), then the keyboard will show in landscape.

Is this a bug of iOS 8? What could I do to fix it? Thanks.
