iPhone restore error 53 - not listed anywhere, what is the problem? has anyone seen it before???

So I know that error 53 for most equals DEATH, but get this, I sat on my iMac for HOURS trying to find ANY possible way to resolve this issue, and NOTHING, nobody had an answer for it, I'm like, dirt-poor and there was absolutely NO way I'd be purchasing a new iDevice anytime soon. So I kept the hope alive and I found a solution, this happened to me by chance, but with the error 53 message, naturally I was stuck in the "boot loop" with no way out. I truly was loosing every ounce of hope as every hour went by, but I tried an old technique that I used to do all the time back with my 3G, DFU mode guys! I swear on everything it worked! Whilst connected to my iMac I placed my phone in DFU mode, my screen was pitch black and totally unresponsive, but still recognized by my computer. (This took me about 3 tries btw) iTunes naturally noticed it being in that state and advised me to attempt a restore, 10 minutes later my iPhone 6 is back up and running. It was a back door way around the forsaken Error 53 message. My phone is alive and the Apple Gods smile upon me on this day!! I'm so happy I could just cry! I REALLY hope that this works for others! Please give it a shot.

BTW guys, my Touch ID sensor is kaput, and was not even functional prior to me even attempting an update via iTunes, so I know for a fact that I received the error message 53 due to the touch ID sensor not functioning properly, but this still worked for me.

It's simple Apple owns your life and your device even though you bought it with your own money, you can not repaire your phone yourself or at an unauthorised repaire shop... if you do when you update your ios Apple will detect an unauthorized repair and brick your phone. Ounce you are in the Apple ecosystem you never leave it's like selling your soul to the devil.

I started to understand this when I was limited to an EOL (end of life ) ios with my iphone 5 ... many apps did not work anymore and basically it became an expensive paper weight. thats when I decided to opt out to Android.. it's not as slick but I feel more FREEEEE

Except it apparently did affect the functionality of the phone, just not in a way that was immediately obvious. All the user has to do is have Apple do the repairs. They just didn't want to pay for them. So, yes, that still falls under TJ's scenarios.

error 53 iphone will be restored by new version ios 9.2.1 but non original part (touch id) willnot work because we must be replace iphone in official apple center with original part yes? if we dont replace touch id in apple center, in new update in ios 10 will be iphone do same error 53? and it will disabled again? or iphone will be restored and uptadet but non original part willnot work? thanks <3

Was it EVER jailbroke?

You broke the display and voided the warranty. That is probably what damaged the touch ID sensor to begin with. You've been told what your option is. There are no other options open to you.

I also got the same error some 5 days back when I was restoring my Iphone6. I even contacted the apple support forum and they have no idea about this error 53. So I tried some permutations and combinations and it worked.

1. Try using Lan or USB dongle for the internet. No wiifi

2. Uninstall all the antivirus software. Do not add into exceptions i tried that but failed.

After this my iphone got restored successfully but now my touch-id is not working is saying "Failed" apart from this every things is working ok.

I will surely take it to the apple store but now not in hurry to do so!!

apple now very bad.....error 53 when restore iPhone 6 and 6plus, touch ID error, now apple not Fix, or warranty... not have software fix....i will use samsung, not use apple iPhone 6 and 6 plus (stupid)

I can't agree more. After repairing my home button on my iPhone 6. I tried to upgrade to 8.2.0 and now I am in recovery mode without being able to finish my upgrade, it keeps saying error occurred (53) . But we are not an isolated case a lot people are on the same boat.

If after you purchased the device and were unable to perform an update, that is a problem. If troubleshooting at that time did not result in correction, you return it. Within the 14 days of purchase, you can return for a refund, and purchase a new device if desired. Much easier within a day or so of delivery to dispel the statement there are non-standard parts. If purchased direct from Apple Store, then you have more standing. I hope you get it worked out.

2015, august (iTunes 8.1.4) and still no solution... Mine touch id cable (so thin!) broke while replacing the screen, but after contacting Mac store by phone, by visiting; so much discussions but it comes down to this; your phone is DEAD. "Sorry sir, but you can buy a new one, with guarantee".......
Using iPhone since the first generations, have had 3, 4, 5 and 6 now. Never have needed the service, always jailbroken, hardware repaired by others or lately by myself, but never experienced such stupidity as the error 53 'hardware' problem....
I decided today that, after years of enjoying the good things of Apple phones (despite of the stupid incompatibility with other devices) it's finally OVER for me.
Apple can have mine 8 months old iPhone 6 and stick it somewhere where it fits. No more Apple phones for me..

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T TRY TO FIX AN IPHONE BY YOURSELF

I bought this iPhone 6 8 months ago and it was my first Apple product bought after years of being loyal Android user, when I thought I should try something new. It was pretty good for a few months until I realized it might be one of the worst choice I have ever made.

iOS 9.1 was introduced 2 months later, and the first mistake I've made with the phone is trying to update it. My friend warned me previously saying that you shouldn't try to update iOS when it just came out because there will be a lot of bugs and stuff. I still did it because the patch notes says that you can have extra few hours of battery life if you updated it. And boom, my touch ID (unlocking phone with fingerprint on home button) stopped working. I try to look for solutions myself online and found that I'm not the only one who experienced this.

And there's the second mistake I've made, I brought my iPhone out of my house without a tampered glass on it. Until last month, they released iOS 9.2. Here comes the patch I've been waiting for, like finally, then I turn to disappointment when my phone tells me that "software update fail: an error occurred downloading iOS 9.2". What error are you talking about? I'm confused and I once again search again for solutions and I found this

It's from official Apple support site so it must be reliable right? So I follow the steps and try to update my phone with iTunes. And it turns out to be the biggest mistake I tried to work with my phone. "An unknown error occurred (53)." These are the last words I received and my phone was effectively dead. Every time I try to wake up my phone it just shows me a black screen with an iTunes logo on it.

So turns out that error code 53 is caused by hardware problem on the home button and I got unlucky with a few others around the globe, we received the batch of phones with faulty home buttons. And it amazed me that nobody actually shared anything about trying to restore it will completely kill your phone.

Some of them got a new replacement phone with their valid warranty. But mine was rejected, "Sorry sir, your Apple warranty is invalid as your screen is cracked." But to think about it, it was unfair to me as even if I didn't have my screen cracked, my phone would still be dead because the main problem lies in the hardware itself, it was a ticking bomb ever since it came out of factory. "I don't want a new phone, I don't even want iOS 9 or the touch ID to work anymore, I just don't want a dead phone."

Thus, I've spoken to 4 Apple support operators so far and I've still have no clue on what I should do with this phone now, I've been redirected here and there in a loop, just like how my phone stuck in a recovery loop.

TL;DR

1) Don't update your iPhone if possible.
2) If you have problems with your iPhone, don't look for solutions online, not even on the official Apple support website.
3) Always use tampered glass.
4) Remember, this is not Android.

So I've spent 5 days trying to figure out how to get my wife's phone back from the black hole it fell in to. After replacing the heat shield inside it today (which some say worked for them) and coming up with the same thing I had all but given up on it. Then read eli192's post. I'm more than happy to say that WORKED!! Thank you for the information!!

Just so everyone knows DFU mode may be the answer. If you don't know how to do it check out google.

If no third party has ever tried to repair your phone, take it to Apple. If the problem is determined to be covered by warranty, Apple will fix it. If your phone is out of warranty, you will need to pay for the repair.

This is apple's way of forcing you to buy a new iphone or have it, very expensively, repaired at an Apple store or authorized third party. the same strategy occured when they blocked access to SSD drives not installed by Apple in Yosemite. Why do I say this? Apple has not bricked iphones before since the touch id was implemented in iphone 5s and anyway you need to use a pin code so I suppose so the security argument is totally bogus. Demand a free repair.
