iPhone restore error 53 - not listed anywhere, what is the problem? has anyone seen it before???

Honestly, they're a disgrace. I call them "Will Spill." I actually tried to get my congressman and both of my senators to do something about them but I got nowhere.

What "massive lawsuit?" Every large company gets threats of lawsuits daily. It's a long way (and a long time) from someone saying they are going to sue, and anything actually happening. What really happened is that Apple investigated the issue, discovered it was a software error, and fixed it because it was the right thing to do.

I had a cracked screen, brought it into shop, I have a black phone but they only had white in stock, so they switched the home button too (I told them I don't use the touch ID, and they said it would be fine)

A few days later, go to update....fails, needs to restore, cant, keep getting error 53.

Read your post and called the shop up and thankfully they still have my original home button!!!!!

Just brought it in and they are currently replacing the orignal button. So fingers crossed this fixes it!

3rd party repairs are not banned. The user has a choice - repair & maintenance by Apple OR repair & maintenance by others. The only limitation is that you can't have it both ways.

That is not a helpful comment.

Telling people 'After' you brick their device that they should have bought a different product is not helpful.

Apple have never said that they would brick your device.

I suspect that the likelihood of success is directly related to how the customer speaks to the representative.

Because Apple has not yet announced a global policy about this. And because it has nothing to do with screen replacement.

Apple has just released an official fix for Error 53.
