Xcode incoming network connections?

Howdy, folks! Mac user since February 2014. Noob problems are rare these days, but have this one for those higher up the Apple tree than myself.

I'm getting into coding and every time open up a project in Xcode, I get this dialog box. It's not super annoying, but I'm not overjoyed to see it. Is this normal? Should I make an exception for this in my firewall? And the last question, what is the intended purpose of this feature?

Thanks.

I have Xcode 6.0.1 on my computer (OSX 10.9.5). Xcode is in the list of allowed apps in my Firewall Options. But Xcode still asks me for permission to allow incoming connections when I'm about to run my program. This often happens multiple times per session. I always click on allow, but it doesn't seem to retain this information. It shouldn't be asking at all, given that it's already been granted permission in the Firewall Options.

Two things I can think to try to see if it clears the problem.

Try removing xcode.app from the list of apps that are allowed incoming connections and run Xcode. When it asks allow it. Sometimes toggling the setting will get it to work.

If after that xcode.app is in the firewall list (with a green dot) and it still keeps asking try setting the Allow all signed apps to on as a test. Does it work now?

An authentication certificate. For example, if you installed xCode as an administrator and then added another user account, xCode might not be able to verify your right as a standard account user to have access to the administrator's code signing information, etc. Bigger companies have to install various kinds of systems for authorization and authentication, but even one computer needs and administrator to set a master password and to issue authorization certificates for user accounts. You can also buy certificates from third parties, but that is necessary if you want a third party to verify the identity of your user account users. If xCode keeps asking you for authorization, then you might have an authorization and authentication issue.

You do have Block all Incoming connections unchecked correct? What about Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections ?

Have you rebooted the system since you are the changes? With Mavericks some settings need a reboot to take effect. After that a reinstall of Xcode might be in order.

For me it has worked correctly since I installed Xcode 6. The first time it asked and after that it has been fine.

good luck
