Hello zackniaz,

If the receiver on your iPhone is low, check out the steps below to see if you can get it sorted out.

iPhone: Receiver and call audio quality issues

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5196

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Increase the volume during the call.
  2. Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver. If you're using a protective case or display film, remove it and try again.
  3. Make sure nothing is plugged into the headphone jack or the dock connector.
  4. Check the receiver opening to see if it is clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
  5. Try another location with better signal. If the audio issue happens only when on a call, it could be due to the location.
  6. If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or a car kit, try turning off Bluetooth on your device. Learn more about troubleshooting Bluetooth connections.
  7. Restart the iPhone.
  8. Make sure your device is up to date.
  9. If the issue is not resolved, contact Apple Support.

I had brought mine in to Genius, who seemed to spend more time making sure that my phone wasn't stolen , than showing me there was a diagnosis going on.

He asked if he could take the phone to the back behind closed doors, so as he could communicate and diagnose with fellow workers. He came out telling me that he tried my phone out with another worker, and he thought it was normal, indicating to me that he had iPhone 6 plus, and his had the same volume, which to him appeared normal. He did indicate that if I continue to feel that there was something wrong, that eventually I could have it replaced. I do have Applecare . I left it that, thinking that perhaps I wasn't holding the phone to my ear correctly, or maybe even that was supposed to be the normal volume. There have been a few times after, I admit, where I almost thought (especially in a noisy room, where I like to experiment for volume) perhaps the volume was as strong as it should be. Then, at some point, I would find myself saying, hmm. I still can barely hear the person at the end of the line. I would have to press my ear to the phone so hard sometimes. Other times, I would try and aim the speaker at different parts of my ear, to see if that did the trick. I'm sorry to say, I still feel the volume is inadequate, not matter how you look at it. I do have my volume up to the maximum all the time. I will have to now find other people with the same phone, so as I can compare to see if it really is the norm or not. If it is, I will then have to say that the problem is endemic.

Have any of you that have the same problem tried other peoples iPhone 6 (plus), to experiment? Would be interested to hear

Hearing Aid Mode made a big difference in volume. Just tried doing that, and it does make a difference, however, by doing that, it turns off the "Phone Noise Cancellation", which i figure is important enough (should be cancelling background noise to a minimum", so why should I do without that? I figure all the Hearing Aid adjustment is doing is amplifying the sound, and perhaps even distorting the sound a bit, Anybody have a view of my analysis? Also,

please notice that when you are turning on the Hearing Aid mode, it continously is searching for a Device. Isn't that whole process power consuming, and continuously going to consume power while searching, even when you are out of the settings? Thanks for any views of this.

I had the same problem too. Went to the apple store and explained my problem. They have given me a replacement but that phone had the same problem. Then they told me it could be the sim card (????). So I went to the phone shop and changed that one too. Result > same problem!! So I went back to the apple store, explained that I'm more than upset and told them that I will a refund. Now I'll use my good old iPhone 4 again!!! 🙂

I am very unhappy with new IPhone 6...I assumed it would be an improvement on my "4", and it is SOOO NOT. I get none features that seem worth the cost of new SIM card (the "4" sim does not work, of course), new case, the phone is bigger..not a plus.. and I CANNOT hear callers well, despite trying every trick this blog and others. This isNOT what I expect from Apple...if they don't admit this issue and fix it, my trust in Apple is degraded...and that is after decades of Apple computers that I love.
