Firmware File Not Found?

I just updated my second gen iPod Nano 2gb to iTunes 7. Its telling me a newer version of the software (1.2) is available. When I first tried to update I got an error message telling me the firmware file was corrupt. I followed the instructions on what to do if the file is corrupt and removed the file in the iPod software updates folder that started with ipod and ended with .ipsw.signature. Now when I try to update it tells me the firmware file could not be found although Ipod diagnostics sez its fine (ver. 1.1.1). I can't resore it either b/c of same message. Any idea of how I can fix this issue?

I have an iPod 30GB video and am having the same exact problem as what you stated. I even did all the steps that you tried except right from the start it said firmware file could not be found. I also have Yamipod installed in my computer and that will not run because it gives me the same error message. Have you resolved the problem yet? This is very frustrating! I can't even reset or restore because the error message comes up and won't let me do anything!

Try this (I'm experimenting on this suggestion)

Go to Start -> All Programs -> Apple Software Update -> Apple Software Update

Click File -> Check for Updates

See if this downloads a software update for your iPod.
Either this application, or iTunes, will should then install it onto the iPod.

(Again, this is just an experimental suggestion, but I'm sure it can't do any harm)

I have the same exact problemo. Freakin' *****. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it. If I explore the drive there are no folders inside. When it worked, there were lots of folders in there. I feel like if I knew what folders are supposed to be there we could trick the restore into working. Anyway I have also engaged in the process of sending it back!! If we get any solutions I'd be suprised!!

Please delete the following folder and try again:

C:\Documents and Setings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

You may need to show hidden files in order to see the Application Data folder. Open up My Computer, and in the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings", select "Show hidden files and folders."

I have no idea about computers so this might be redundant, but i'm having the same issues. I have an ipod mini and it became "corrupted." i tried to restore it but got an unknown error and then the error that the firmware file isn't found. so i did all of your suggestions- deleting the files with .ipsw or whatever it is and then the folder entirely. now when i try to search for updates, it says that my itunes is up to date. my quality of life is being severely impacted so i'm desperate- please help!!

also, i'm so bad at computers i can't even figure out how to post a new thread, so sorry if i got your hopes up that this would be the reply that solves the problem.
