I?m confused. Are you seeing the file as an eml or as a jpg? If you see it as a Jpg, then issue is at the other end. On Windows eml files can be opened with Outlook.

If you see it as an EML on your side before you send it, then maybe its a question of changing the eml extension to jpg.

eml is not a graphic or image format. Its a container format for email messages. You need to open the eml file to view any attached files, and save the attachment with its correct format.

Opening the EML file should launch your default Mail application. you can then save any attached items normally.

This has to sound very dumb to you guys but....In my dock I have Preview. I klick the icon and Preview opens and the menu bar lists Preview.

However when I klick the eml. file in my email the window reverts to 'mail'. Menu bar lists mail. I tried dragging the eml file to icon in the dock, no luck.

Where am I going wrong??/TIA

I tried to do that and the file reverts back to the desktop or back to the email where it was.

I tried it on iphoto and got a windown that states in essence can't read the file..

I think I'll give up on this problem...but why did my email app change the jpeg file I received

to an EML and cause the problem???

TIA

Did you save the jpg when it came via email, or are you forwarding the message it came in?

If you saved it, did you really save the message instead of the picture? If you used File > Save as, then you were saving the message and it will be in elm format.

If you save the attachment, are you certain you saved it with a JPG extension?

I dragged and dropped the photo, file, from the incoming email to my desk top. I then wrote an email and dropped the file on the new email.

Receiver of my email sees the attachment as an eml. When I open the file on my desktop and go to menu 'file then 'Get info

it indicates the pix is an EML. I need to send the file as a JPEG. I know I have done this before with older app's. but somehow

can't do it easily now????TIA

When I single click the file on my desktop the menu bar states 'Finder and clicking 'file then 'get info it says the extension is an eml file.

When I double click the file on my desktop the 'Mail app opens the file...

There must be a way to convert the eml file to jpg....Ciao

You are dragging the message, not the photo. What you have created on your desktop is a picture embedded in an email message.

At the top of the message, below the header info, hover the mouse in the center until you see a little toolbar pop up. Click the paper clip button on the right end and save the attachment to your desktop. Email that.

Without watching what you are doing when you drag and drop, I can't begin to figure out how to describe to you how to fix it.

You dragged the email message thus creating an eml file with he picture inside.

You need to drag the actual picture. when you open the file on your desktop drag the image outside to the desktop again. This should export the image file to your desktop.

Alternatively, following Barney's instructions should let you save the image as a jpeg rather than an email.
