Same thing happened to me just yesterday. Like when I turn ringer up it'll say headphones like it's still connected. I called support but they took too long to answer. Took about 1hr or 2 for it to work. It works when I make phone calls but can only speak on the speaker phone. But your phone should be fine. :)

Just GOTTA reply, here. Have a 6 plus. Happened to be away from wifi, so opened the GolfTec app on the phone I almost always only open on the iPad And to take a quick look at my last lesson video. No audio. Did a quick check on Clash of Clans. No audio. Tried Boom Beach. No audio. I usually play those apps with the sound off, anyway, so would not have noticed except for the test. Tried another game. No audio.

Checked the Videos app, Music app, opened a trailer on IMDb, and played a message on the phone app. All had audio.

Rechecked the game apps using headphones. Audio worked just fine.

DId a search and found this thread. Got a headache from slapping my forehead so hard.

My excuse is that the Otterbox case protects the phone so well, it protects one from remembering the mute button is hidden away under a protective cover. Musta muted it a long time ago at a movie and forgot about it. Since music, videos and streaming plays fine, and the phone is on vibrate, I just never noticed it.

thanks for this thread, so I didn't have to embarrass myself actually asking the question, first. LOL

I have the exact same problem. The sound doesn't completely disappear (well, the custom ringtone and SMS sound does), but every other sound, sounds like they have been converted to 4-bit audio. I mean, you can clearly hear the original sound clip, but it's clipped and distorted in a way that makes it completely unusable.

A reboot always fixes this.

This happened on my 6 Plus and happens on my 6S Plus, so I doubt any factory settings reset will help.

I returned my iPhone 6s Plus to Apple and received a replacement. It worked fine for a few weeks, until the day that the sound crapped out again. It's not as severe as my last phone, but it still happens. I've reset the phone in order for it to go back to normal. The next time it happens I'll try turning off Bluetooth. But even if that works, I can't leave Bluetooth off all the time. How might this issue be related to BT? Could there be an app that corrupts the BT in the iPhone? If we could isolate what app it is maybe we remove it or contact the developer for a more permanent fix.

iPhone 6S Plus 64GB, after 1 month no sound on speaker. I did hard reset, reset all settings, restart and Bluetooth ON/OFF.

My solution was simple: Open YouTube and press play, will be no sound, switch quickly to phone SETTINGS/SOUNDS and move volume bar once sound still play ringtone switch back to YouTube and press PLAY, this way sound back on my iPhone. I decided to share this in case may help someone else.

That did help my phone for a while. Same issue as the first post. Volume toggle is on and volume is set to the highest level, but no sound. I've tried toggling the mute switch, changing the volume, and turning bluetooth off and on. Bokone's solution usually works, but failed this morning. As did rebooting the phone; something that has also helped in the past. What finally worked was inserting a cable int the audio jack. Once I removed it, sound! I almost never use the audio jack, and the loss of audio has not been related to using it.

I hope a fix is found for this soon. I've missed texts and calls after audio has mysteriously disappeared. Sometimes I depend on my iPhone to wake me in the morning. A lack of audio would be very bad in that situation.

Purchased a brand new iPhone6S. Worked great at first but then the call/text sound stopped. Troubleshot, retroeed, restored from a backup, even started from scratch and builkt the phone from the ground up- added back apps, music, photos, etc. Took two days. The problem cam back. Then I turned off the Bluetooth. With Bluetooth on, any of my headphones in range were getting the TONE and the phone would only vibrate.

It was the Bluetooth.

Problem solved. 😊

I've almost tried everything.. to reset, to clean the speakers, to squeeze and to scroll.

I remembered that the last time I used the phone was last night and I was playing music on YouTube- connecting it to my loudspeakers-.

so I figured out that the problem is that the phone can't feel that I've disconnected the loudspeakers.

I put drops of my perfume on a tissue and I plugged the headphones - covering it by the tissue- into the entrance of the headphones.

after I unplugged it, the sounds suddenly came back!

I wish this will help you.

I have discovered turning off the bluetooth and the sound works before coming to this thread. My question is, why does this keep happening.. The volume shows high and no sound until I turn off the bluetooth.. Nothing is connected to it. I use my bluetooth in my car but this is after the fact I am at work or out and about.. This is constantly happening...

I am embarrassed to admit this...I am a professional software engineer with experience dating back to the first iPhone. I just wasted almost an hour trying all sorts of settings and tests-i could not believe that I has the Volume (AND Ringer volume) set to high, with texts and calls clearly set to thing-i could even hear the ring in Settings. I also verified I could play music and my Bluetooth was turned off. I completely forgot that the little mute switch on the phone overrides all other sound settings! If you set it to Mute, there's nothing on the screen to remind you that you are on silent mode-calls, texts, reminders, and even keyboard clicks just don't play. I wish there was some indicator that you have that switch on Mute-but I should have realized this MUCH sooner-it is a switch on every phone in the market going back to the 90s!!! Thank you for the reminder! At first I thought this was a cynical "are you sure your computer is plugged in" response; forgetting that many people [including myself] *are* dumb enough to "have the computer unplugged" from time to time...

I Had this problem too. It gradually got worse until I could barely hear! I figured I had nothing to lose so I took a tiny brush and tried to clean the speaker....nothing. So I used a toothpick and gently scraped it and lots of gunk came off! Now, it is as loud as it was when I got it. Think about the sweat, dirt, makeup, sunscreen and other things that get on our skin getting in there. Worked for me!
