My verizon.net account suddenly stopped working on my Mac Mail?

My verizon.net account suddenly stopped working on my Apple Mail client two weeks ago. It doesn't work on any device including iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, or Mac desktop. I've gone over the settings with Apple Genius Bar and with Verizon and they both blame the problem on each other. Has anyone else had this issue and do you know how to fix it? According to Verizon and Apple, my settings, including ports and username and passwords are all correct. But I keep getting an "authentication failed" error.

Here is a copy of the logs for my Mail account:

I have the same issues as many other users.I get the following error " The connection to the server “pop.verizon.net” on port 995 timed out."

My iPhone, iPad and Macbook pro all have the same issue connecting to only my Verizon.net email all other email works fine. If I turn off wi-fi both the iPhone and iPad will run the Verizon email as well as my Macbook as long as it is connected to my phone or iPad via hotspot and not wi-fi. I have all the settings for the verizon email account properly set. So in short all devices work on LTE but not WI-FI Anyone have any solutions?

Same exact problem here. Verizon applemail stopped working a month ago on all devices except iphone in LTE. I can access via safari browser, which is what I've been doing. Actually had a verizon rep suggest I had to use those Yahoo settings even though I don't have a Yahoo account. Staggering incompetence. Probably spent about 72 hours on this problem with Verizon and Time Warner tech support. Verzion filps from acknowledging the problem to denying it, depending on which day you call. Verizon tech has made it clear they know about the issue, but don't give a sh*t. After having the same email for twelve years I feel like my only option is to migrate to gmail.

My folks have had the same problem since early October. I just got home for the holidays and have been trying to figure it out for them. Verizon couldn't help, despite several long support calls.

I just figured it out on my own (sort of and at least for our situation - one computer, no sub accounts, no other iDevices).

For us, what worked is selecting "add account" under the Mac Mail "File" menu and setting up a new/duplicate of our account. When it prompted me to put in the name of the account, I did our usual name with an underscore two (e.g. "FullName_2") to differentiate it, but used the same email address and password as usual.

From there, it was pretty much just an automated and simple set up process. The one unexpected thing:

The new account downloaded copies of ALL the emails my folks have received on their verizon account since they opened it 5 years ago. (about 15k emails)

That took a little time, but no big deal. Now, from this newly set up version of the same account, we can send and receive emails like the good old days.

I double checked the Preferences and compared the settings between the original and newly set up accounts - no discernible differences. My conclusion is that it's a bug somewhere deeper under the hood. A frustrating bug. We were also tempted to abandon Verizon and jump ship for gmail, and may still.

Thanks for this thread. It got me thinking of potential fixes. Hope this one helps!

I Had the same problem when trying to access verizon email thru the macmail app while overseas. I repeated get authentication failed messages.

Spent hours on on the phone with verizon rep, and was told that the wi-fi settings from the hotel or private residence where I was blocked the verizon mail.

I Am sooo fed-up with verizon on so many levels, that I finally decided after ten years of verizon mail to switch to gmail.

Lots of headaches but can now access email when I travel. I believe that the security level of verizon servers have something to do with this problem.

I recommend ditching verizon mail - bottom line? It's a terrible email service.

good luck

PROBLEM SOLVED. Check email content.

Similar issue here, my wife could not send email with verizon account using mac mail and hours of waiting and talking to tech support did not help. Verizon told us the issue is software related, so rather than trying to call apple we looked at our settings again and they were fine … finally we tried sending an email without the signature and miraculously it worked! We narrowed it down to the blogspot link that was part of the signature, somehow Verizon did not like that link. But since we needed to include the link we tried sending the email using the Verizon website and we encountered a problem there, a pop up window saying: "The mail could not be sent because it was determined to be a spam!!!"

We called back Verizon, they told us to report the issue to Verizon spam detector and the problem went away in less than 30 minutes. Now we are able to send emails again without any issues.

Hope this helps ..
