My friend and I have both upgraded to ios 8. Now, every imessage she gets from me has a moon symbol next to it. Neither of us has Do Not Disturb on and all other imessages come through without the symbol. Sometimes the moon is a gray crescent and sometimes it is a blue circle with a crescent moon inside it. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these?

In IOS 11.1 it’s called HIDE ALERTS. Turn this off to receive text message

I have that moon symbol too. I checked my settings and the "do not disturb" is NOT on. So why is it still appearing. Could it be that the person I am messaging to has it on?
it worked! turn off the "hide alerts" function.
I dont know why suddenly i cant send her an imessage what went wrong?does this mean that the person blocks me?
if your using iOS 11, go in to messages and click on the contact the moon is by. Then click the little i in the right corner and turn Hide Alerts off

THANKS! Bringing your answer to present day, in iOS 11, DETAILS is a blue ‘i‘ with circle (information symbol) and ‘Do not disturb’ is called ’Hide Alerts’.
