iPhone 6 poor picture quality

I have an iPhone 6 (64gb AT&T) running iOS 8.02 and I'm experiencing poor image quality with photos taken with the camera. It looks they are artificially over sharpened and fairly pixelated when compared to photos taken with my iPhone 5. It's most noticeable when capturing skin tones in a lowish light setting. It almost looks like there has been a bad watercolor effect added to then photo. I'm attaching a few examples that have been cropped to show the problem spots. Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks but totally useless. If you think apple doesn't monitor these discussions, you're mistaken. Further, this is not a problem that can be fixed at the genius bar, so here's a hint dear: you don't take your phone to the Apple store for every problem, some problems require time and effort from both the community and the company. Also you may want to do a little searching in the future before making assumptions and giving incorrect information. An incorrect answer is more detrimental to the community than no answer. This is a known, trending issue with the new iPhone.

You have a phone with a camera that doesn't work right and you don't want to take it back, dear? Suit yourself. Don't hold your breath waiting for an Apple rep to respond.

Again, thanks but please stop giving misinformation. This is a software setting tweaked and only fixable by an update via Apple techs, not something you can take your phone into the store to fix or even fix by replacing. It is a flaw yes but it is by design not by error. I'm not holding my breath dear as I stated earlier, it is simply known that Apple monitors the trends. That does not mean they reply to you or this thread. It's all about creating and spreading awareness, that's why it's called a support community.

What's the misinformation? I'm suggesting you return the phone to have it examined. As you've only had a couple days they'll likely give you a new one. It's not a flaw by design as mine and millions of others don't have the problem. I've been on this forum long enough to know if it was a wide spread issue you'd be hearing a lot more about it than there is. If your new car isn't running right are you just going to park it and write the automaker a note on a support community or are you going to get it into the shop and have it looked at? Most people would do the latter. You it seems are only looking for a support group.

1. Your are incorrect, hint: use a search engine.

2. Yes I am looking for support not opinionated clutter.

3. Read the header of the page: "Apple SUPPORT Communities" see now? Good.

I truly don't understand why you feel the need to clutter the forum with your opinion. If you can't contribute or be supportive then you are merely wasting your time and that of others on here.

With respect I think you are missing the point of the discussion here.

The phone camera functions, just not as well as the previous model. The issue looks to be software related. I have compared 3x iPhone 6's in our office and they all exhibit the same traits. If this is not a wide spread problem I can only assume that others are less quality critical. (Or we have been unlucky with a dodgy batch!) As a photographer, this looks to me like high compression coupled with aggressive noise reduction in post. Don't get me wrong, if this was the first iPhone I'd purchased I'd be happier not having had a frame of reference. (the 4s & 5s Models).

I'd like to argue that this is 'phone' first, and camera second, but... I do use this camera quite a bit for reference shots etc. It's useable, but sadly the results are not as clean as the previous model. I'm sure an update will improve the overall quality of the final image. As @Tahpagh suggests, a google search reveals that we are not alone. Fingers crossed and all that.

Oh, and the Apple store for a fix... Hmm remember the iPhone 4 antenna issue? Guess we did get a free rubber case to solve that one

Mine says 8.1 (12B411) and that it's up to date. Was purchased with this version so I cannot even blame a dodgy update for my problems. Not having the best time with Apple at the moment in general. Our MacPro has become an expensive door stop to since Yosemite. That's another 'downgrade' on the list. Never enough time zzz

On a plus point though, (not the iPhone plus - that was WAY to big for me) I do like the 4G speed and the battery life. Camera features are very rich indeed (quality aside). Time may be a great healer in this case ;-)

I am also having the same issue. The image to the left is from my iPhone 4s running ios7 the one on the right is my new iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1 I have been on the phone with apple and they claim they have never heard of this being an issue and have no plans to do any software upgrade at this point :/ Once I sent links to several forums with hundreds of people having the same issue they ran me through hoops of hard restarts and looks like I may be getting an ew phone since that did not work. ALL my friends phones have the exact same artifacting..... first apple purchase I have every regretted. I am a pro photog and LOVED that I could leave my gear at home for personal road trip documentation and still get some AMAZING images from a phone. now all I get is water color splodges. I would highly recommend others with this issue call or email so this can get on the tens radar. " we don't read the forums so unless people call in we do not realize there is an issue" was what I was told.

Yep. That's exactly the same results I'm getting. As I mentioned earlier in my last post, I've tried 3 phones from different people... they all exhibit the same results. I'm a bit miffed by the 6 to be honest. Loved the 5 & 5s, but this seems a backward step in many ways. Not least the fact that in an attempt to make the phone thinner that ever, they've left the camera lens sticking out the back! I can see why this was the case in terms of the physical optics etc, but as someone who regularly taps away with the handset laid down on the desk, I find the rocking caused by the uneven facet rather annoying. This is the first time I've ever had to purchase a case for an iPhone. I'm a huge admirer of Sir Jony Ive and was always happy to display his craftsmanship. Shame to cover this one up just to add a mm of depth to the back. Im assuming the poor chap was under a lot of pressure to make a thinner handset than Apple's rivals. As a fan, I'd like to think he protested in favour of the slicker finish - but had his arm twisted.

I got my iPhone 6 last week and I noticed this issue instantly. I had am iPhone4 before and the camera was MUCH MUCH MUCH better.

I tried ProCam RAW TIFF option but the results are the same. It seems that ProCam gets the image already postprocessed before saving it at JPG or TIFF, so it doesn't solve anything.

The one thing I noticed is if you shot in burst mode the "watercolor" effect is a bit (just a bit) less noticeable. It seems the image processor has less time to process the image and so the effect is lower.

I REALLY hope Apple solve this. For me the camera is unusuable.
